Adam Sandler Scores Again!

"Happy Gilmore", the title character portrayed by Adam Sandler in this upbeat comedy, is a young man who just wanted to play hockey. Unfortunately, this little thing called ice skating keeps getting in the way of his dream career!

Happy isn't so happy when he's turned down at tryouts for the local hockey team (again), his girlfriend takes off, and his dear Grandma calls to say her house is being repossessed due to back taxes she couldn't afford.

While the IRS movers take a break loading up Grandma's things, they bet Happy to do better than they can at hitting a golf ball. Happy nails it 400 yards (and injures a few unsuspecting neighbors in the process)! Taking the bet money he won, he heads off to the local driving range, where he wins a little more money just because folks can't believe his long drive ability. A has-been pro golfer takes Happy under his wing and helps him go pro himself.

All Happy wants is to help Grandma get out of the nursing home, where a crazy, slave-driving orderly (Ben Stiller) makes the residents miserable. If he can win some money on the pro tour, she'll get her house back and everything will be right with the world. But then he meets Shooter, a fame-crazed golfer who wants to win so badly he'll cheat and play dirty. Now he has two reasons to win, not just one round at a time, but the whole pro tour!

You won't want to miss the knock-down drag out fight Happy has on the golf course with Bob Barker (of The Price is Right)! And it sure is interesting to see an aggressive hockey player try to deal with the rules of golf. On that note, you can expect a fair amount of language in this film, so be forewarned. Unless you're watching the TV edit, don't share this with younger kids. Teens who know better than to repeat everything they hear will have a lot of fun with this one.

As usual, Adam Sandler delivers a quality comedy that's different than other films out there. I enjoy his movies because, while some of the comedic situations are unrealistic (hey, it's a movie), a lot of the themes are based on emotions and experiences we've all dealt with. So treat yourself to this fun story about your average guy just trying to make good for the folks he loves.
