Author's Review
First off I would like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, however many people were displeased with this movie, expecting another Silence Of The Lambs. Now you cannot go into this movie expecting another Silence of the lambs, or a movie with the exact plot of that movie or you will definitely be disappointed. What you have to take into mind when viewing this movie is that this movie is a sequel, and that a sequel does not have to be the same in every way as the original.
I personally went into the movie with a positive attitude, expecting nothing to compare this movie to Silence of the lambs, and by doing this I witnessed how truly great and gruesome this movie really was.

Plot
Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) is out, and enjoying himself to the fullest in Italy under another name. However meanwhile agent Clarrisse Starlings (Julianne Moore), Lecters former adversary/Obsession, career has just met a down point as a disaster with her killing a woman with a baby had caused her to give up her license for an unknown period of time until the investigation is furtherly worked on.
It has it though that one of Hannibals victims, Virgil Mason, has survived, and plots revenge on Lecter. He had placed a reward for Lecters return at a price of $3,000,000. It also so happens that Clarisse becomes aware of this, and again begins to investigate Hannibal.
This plot I found, while not as entertaining to some as Silence of the lambs, was very thought out, and works well. I found the movie to be very interesting, and the ending was surely something that will disturb you for a while.

Cast
Probably what made the movie extremely entertaining was the presence of Anthony Hopkins. Hopkins does a wonderfully great job of a psychotic yet refined individual, who in his sick in the twisted mind is really only looking out for himself and others by punishing all the people who bother him. He pulls off everything great, and really has that face that makes you believe his part and be struck by fear.
Also what surprised me was how well Julianne Moore acted in this movie, although shes sure to receive biased comments about it. Many people were displeased about the fact that she was playing this role instead of Jodie Foster, who played it in the original, and I too was a little displeased about this. However after seeing this movie, and seeing the way she acted, I was quite pleased. No one could really ask for an exact replacement, and I believe Moore was sufficient enough in this role.
All the other actors acted wonderfully too, although Im unaware of all their names. The lack of facial expression by Mason Virgil was made up by the visualization of torn and rotting flesh, which was made realistic by his makeup. And although I believe the person behind this role wouldnt have made a difference, the role was played flawlessly.
Another well-played role was that of the Italian detective who wished to capture Hannibal for the reward. He showed correct fear and anger at the right moments, and was a great addition.
Overall the cast was played almost flawlessly, the only person who really bothered me was the pretty boy cop who worked with Moore in the movie, he was a little unbelievable at parts, especially at the end when his reaction to what was happening was so incorrect it was to me, laughable.

Overall
This movie was very good, and while everything was not pulled off excellently, it was pulled off very well despite what others might have said. I found this movie to be above descent because it really kind of showed how crazy this guy was, however it also portrayed a rather sensitive side of him, which was nice.
Be furtherly warned that throuought this movie there is a lot of Gore, not the former Vice President but explicit scenes of violence and blood. I recommend you be aware of this before entering the movie. If you feel uncomfortable when seeing a disembowelment, or feel squeamish when exposed to the human brain while it is still functioning inside I human head, then I would advise you to either skip this movie or close your eyes very often.
