Author's Review
I will be the first to admit that I have really random things that attract me to movies. Halloween 4 and 5 are two of the movies that everyone seems to hate, but I've always enjoyed them.
One of the reasons that I enjoy them is that other than Death Valley(an 80's movie with the boy from A Christmas Story), there are few movies where the lead being stalked is a young child.
I saw this in theatres when it first came out, so I was right around Danielle Harris' age(I guess I was about 6 years old). A man dressed up in a Michael Myers mask popped out from behind the curtain and jumped out at me with a fake butcher knife. I was terrified... what a great night!
Now to Halloween 4, we start off the night before Halloween when Michael Myers is immobile after that incident in Halloween 2 involving the fire that could have wiped out an entire floor of people.
He manages to escape, so Dr. Loomis is hot on his trail(yeah, he also managed to survive).
We meet Jamie(Danielle Harris) who has now been adopted by a new family since her Mother's death(she is the child of Laurie Strode). We meet big sister Rachel, who is a typical teenager but she has a soft spot for her new young sister.
Once it is Halloween, Dr. Loomis tries to warn the town that Michael Myers is back, but not before the city wide blackout.
The back of the old VHS copy of Halloween 4 claims that Rachel and Jamie end up trapped in their own home, but no, that doesn't happen actually.
They end up trapped in the Sherriff's house, which is just as good.
Now, I'll admit this movie is cheesy in a lot of ways, but it has some fun moments in it.
There is the infamous roof scene, which always seems to be a crowd favorite even for people who dislike the movie. That scene spawned the great line from Rachel, "Well try, dangit!" except with a curse word in place of dangit.
And the finale really builds up pretty well, though you have to forget any and all logic at certain points in order to just go with it and have fun.
Also, the relationship between Rachel and Jamie is sweet. None of the other characters really stand out, but they manage to really draw you in towards the last half when they are counting on eachother to survive.
This also sets up for Halloween 5, which is my personal favorite of the series.
