Date of Review: Jul 18, 2005
The Bottom Line: This is the music for the Past, Present And Future--As you can see!
This is collection of work comes from the most successful albums in music history. Michael is the single most awarded entertainer the world has ever known. As you listen to and enjoy his music, I'm sure you'll agree that we, his fans, are the ones who are the most rewarded.--Steven Spielberg
Michael Jackson has had his spotlight. Sure, he has been in court for child molestation but really, his music is what makes us cling to him, respect him, love his music. Please don't let his personality freak you out, his music is damn worth it to respect the King Of Pop.
Disc One:
Billie Jean:
For the first classic on disc1, Billie Jean has extraordinary beats: sharp and loud hits on the drums with a weird piano in the mix with a few sharp clashes. Also you get a somewhat loud rattler in the background. It has good beats but it is a little too disco for me. Mike's vocals here are excellent. He's extremely soulful as he sings the verses and the addictive chorus. Mike's vocals also make the song easy to dance to because his vocals are one of his greatest vocal work ever! The lyrics are creative and well-written. Billie Jean is written by Michael Jackson. Replay Value: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
The Way You Make Me Feel:
With its beats: sharp and loud hits on the drums with clashes as such as loud clapping with an electric guitar in the mix; this song must be a hit! Well, others make like it but I don't. Again, it's a bit too disco for me. Mike's vocals here are excellent. Actually, it's the only reason I listen to this song. Mike is soulful with his addictive singing in this song. It's quite possible that I can't explain how it is so damn good! The verses are really good but the chorus is a bit too annoying. Mike really didn't do the greatest when he sings It's the way you make me feel. The lyrics although are creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write The Way You Make Me Feel. Replay Value: 2/5 Overall: 2/5
Black Or White:
With its rock style beats and Mike's voice, it's no doubt why the hell this is a classic! The beats are pretty much like rock. It has an addictive melody of an electric guitar with a couple medium sound clashes. Also, you get minor low-key technical sounds in the background. Mike's vocals here are one of his best work as he literally makes his voice addictive in this track as he sings somewhat demanding while being soulful at the same time. The lyrics are really creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write Black Or White. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Rock With You:
The beats are pretty good but still has a tiny ounce of disco in it. Enjoy this with its Billie Jean type beats with its sharp hits on the drums with a few sharp clashes or clapping. Also, you get more instruments in the band. A fiddle and a trumpet. They are pretty good but that disco thing isn't that great. Also, the fiddle isn't that great either. Mike's vocals are again one of his best. He's soulful with his somewhat girl voice and his addictive voice. Mike's vocals on the chorus however isn't nothing too special. It just doesn't serve the song like it should sound. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did not write Rock With You. Replay Value: 2/5 Overall: 3/5
She's Out Of My Life:
With just a piano, this song really shows Mike's talent. The piano is really good with Mike's voice as it shows his singing is great with or without music in the background. Mike's voice here are slow and soulful yet people will probably cry because of his meaningful vocals as he basically cries in this song as he sings. The problem with this song is that Mike makes his voice a bit too meaningful as he makes his voice a bit too annoying but still good. The lyrics are really good; creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did not write She's Out Of My Life. Replay Value: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
Bad:
Do you think Mike is bad? Because this song is pretty bad. The beats are pretty good and goes with the mood of the song; sharp and extreme hits on the drums with really sharp clashes and you get technical sounds in the mix. Mike's vocals are pretty good during the verse(doesn't go well with the chorus) but the chorus is the best out of the song as he sings angry and demanding as he points out that he is bad! The lyrics are creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write Bad. Replay Value: 2/5 Overall: 3/5
I Just Can't Stop Loving You featuring Siedah Garrett:
First duet off the album, this is a true classic with its easy melody beats; an easy melody electric guitar, dull hits on the drums with windchimes in the mix. Mike's vocals here are again his best work as he sings slow yet soulful and addictive really. He's extremely soulful here folks and it's no wonder this is his one of his best work. Siedah's vocals add a nice touch to the song. Too bad you don't hear her too much because she blends in too well with Mike's. But once in a while, she stands out as she sings higher than Mike's voice. Mike and Siedah go great together. The lyrics are pretty good but nothing too great. They are creative and well-written though. Michael Jackson did write I Just Can't Stop Loving You. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Man In The Mirror:
For this anthem, the beats are finger snapping, somewhat dull hits on the drums with a piano. Good mix for an anthem. Mike's vocals here are excellent as he sings soulful as he tries to change the man in the mirror. He sings the high points really well. He sounds somewhat like a girl but it is really good. He goes great with the choir that he has singing with him. The lyrics are really creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did not write Man In The Mirror. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Thriller:
Michael's first true classic--Thriller. The most popular video, song and album ever! Do I like it? The beats are sharp hits on the drums with sharp hand claps, werewolves howls, an evil dull piano in the background with a few electric guitar technical sounds. Pretty good but it has that disco melody in the song that I just don't like. Mike's vocals are pretty good. The verses aren't really the highlight but I like how Mike somewhat stretches the lyrics out. The chorus however is simply amazing. He sings somewhat high and to tell you the truth, the chorus is somewhat addictive but too bad the disco takes it down. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did not write Thriller. Replay Value: 1/5 Overall: 2/5
Beat It:
Beat It has some really creative beats. First, the dull yet very loud clock chime, the melody of the electric guitar, the hand clapping and some dull hits on the drums. Together, they go really well and make this classic good to hear! Still, there is a very tiny ounce of disco that I don't like. Mike's vocals here are simply amazing. He sings the verses very angry and demanding like but it really works as he's soulful but the chorus is the amazing part. He sings high while being soulful, angry and demanding. I really don't think any Michael Jackson fan doesn't like Beat It because it is an amazing song with Mike's amazing vocals. The lyrics are really good and creative. Also, very well-written. Michael Jackson did write Beat It. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 4/5
The Girl Is Mine featuring Paul McCartney:
On an easier and melodic side of things, the beats for this track is an melodic piano, with a few soft picks on an electric guitar with soft technical sounds. Together, it's a very easy-going song. Very cheerful. Mike's vocals are really good. He's extremely soulful as he sings cheerfully and he sings the high parts really great. Paul's vocals are really good. Very manly. He's pretty good but I think Mike actually beats Paul in this song. But Paul and Mike sounds really good together. The lyrics are really good. Very creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write The Girl Is Mine. Replay Value: 4/5 Overall: 5/5
Remember The Time:
The very first disco song that I actually like! The beats here are simply electrifying with its laser-like technical sounds, dull hits on the drums with very sharp clashes. You also get a minor piano playing. Very good for a disco song. Mike's vocals here sound like a girl but trust me, he sings soulful as he's making his voice work against a somewhat fast music in the background. He sings the high points really well but those high parts are very few. The lyrics are really good and creative. Also well-written. Michael Jackson did not write this song; although he did, someone helped him to write it. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Don't Stop Until You Get Enough:
An upbeat song with pretty fast music in the background. The beats sound similar to Billie Jean with its picks on an acoustic guitar and some really weird clinging and clanging. You get tons of technical sounds in this one. It's pretty hard to tell what the hell you are hearing but I know for sure that this is a disco song. I really hate this song because there is so many things wrong with it. Mike's vocals here are simply horrible. He sings the verses really high and that makes his sound A LOT like a girl. For the chorus, he does better but not better enough. He does sound a tiny more manly but his voice all together is too high and too girly. The lyrics are okay and aren't too creative but are well-written. Michael Jackson did write Don't Stop Until You Get Enough:. Replay Value: 0/5 Overall: 0/5
Wanna Be Startin Something:
Mike sure did start something with the above song. Now, maybe this song will be better. The beats for this is very disco with its trumpets, upbeat pace, sharp hits on the drums with tons of technical sounds and a rattler. Not very good and it doesn't go well with the mood Mike is trying to put out. Mike's vocals are a tad better than the above song but still, he sounds so girly in this song, it's not very funny. He sings the song mostly high-pitched and it really shows Mike's voice as a girl. It's not very a good way to actually sing if you are a man. The lyrics are okay. Again, nothing special. They are well-written though. Michael Jackson did write Wanna Be Startin Something. Replay Value: 0/5 Overall: 0/5
Heal The World:
For this anthem about healing the world from its troubles, the beats are an easy melodic piano with a melodic acoustic guitar. It's a very laid-back song to reflect what Mike is trying to put out. Mike's vocals here are back! He's extremely soulful as he's singing this anthem and ballad. He doesn't really sing high in this song but sometimes in the song( maybe a couple of times), he does sing like he is crying. Also, Mike's voice in here is again one of his best because you can tell he means what he is singing and he is putting it all in his singing. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write Heal The World. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Disc Two:
Scream featuring Janet Jackson:
The first duet of the disc2. This one has tons of things going on. The beats are mostly noise but excellent. The noises are laser sounds, sharp hits on the drums, sharp clashes, a very melodic electric guitar and lots of technical sounds. A very demanding and angry song with excellent beats making the song's point very loud! Mike's vocals here are one of his best as he sings in a technical voice(?) but then switches into normal. He's very angry and demanding in this song. His high singing is really good! Janet's vocals here are angry and demanding but she's more soulful than Michael. She sings high in most of the song. She does excellent as she adds a nice female touch to the song. Although, you don't hear Janet's voice in the chorus( because he sings over her) but trust me, you certainly hear her in the verses and the general singing. The lyrics are really good and creative. Well-written also. Michael Jackson did write this song but with lots of help from people like Janet herself and other people. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
They Don't Care About Us:
For this seemingly intended anthem, the beats sound like an anthem with its sharp hits on the drums that sound like feet stomping and sharp clashes. Also, a technical sound but you get that in the bridge. Very good for an anthem. Mike's vocals here are really good. He's angry and demanding once again in this song. He does great in this song with his high points and his soul in his singing. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write They Don't Care About Us. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Stranger In Moscow:
Michael is no stranger to the world. For this track, the beats are an easy going soft hits on the drums with a few dull and sometimes sharp clashes. Very melodic track. Mike's vocals here are extremely soulful as he sings somewhat slow and high on the verses but the chorus he is very high-pitch. He uses his voice to point out the song's meaning. However, I don't know what that is. The lyrics are pretty good but it is nothing too special. It is somewhat creative but is well-written. Michael Jackson did write Stranger In Moscow. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
This Time Around featuring Notorious B.I.G.:
For this demanding and angry song, the beats are sharp clashes with dull hits on the drums with a dull and low piano. Goes great together believe it or not! Mike's vocals here are extremely excellent as he sings angry and demanding. He certainly puts his soul in this angry and demanding song as he did in SCREAM. B.I.G.'s vocals here are really good and is a nice touch as we take a break from Mike's vocals. The lyrics here are really creative and well-written. B.I.G.'s verse is quite possible his best yet! Michael Jackson did write This Time Around. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Earth Song:
For this up lifting song, a melodic piano is playing in the background. As the song progresses, the beats change as the piano is a bit heavier and you get a really loud and sharp hits on the drums to introduce the chorus. The beats are very uplifting and really, really fit the mood of the song. Mike's vocals here are extremely soulful and his BEST out of his whole career! He sings the verses low and quiet but when the chorus is introduced, he screams literally as this becomes a song that will make you cry and make you wave your hands in the air as Michael sings about the terrible things about the world. You will cry or be uplifted until the song is over which is 6 minutes and 47 seconds. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write Earth Song. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
D.S.:
A song targeted at Tom Sheldon--the man who is the prosecutor of the police department who was the prosecutor of the 1993 and the 2003 case. In his upbeat and somewhat fast pace song, the beats are a melodic electric guitar with dull hits on the drums with sharp clashes. Together, it is a powerful song against Tom Sheldon. Mike's vocals here are extremely excellent as he sings very angry and demanding. I really like how Mike stretches his lyrics in this one. Very creative! The lyrics are really creative and well-written. Of course, Michael Jackson wrote D.S.. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Money:
For this track, the beats are dull and deep hits on the drums with a few sharp and sometimes dull clashes. Very good but wished that the verses were like the chorus which is very upbeat. Mike's vocals here are pretty good but one thing: He sings awful as the verses are going on. Mike sings so slow and so deep, you can't hardly hear what he is saying. For the chorus however, he is upbeat and kind of high-pitched. I love how Mike says money as he sings monay! See, if that was going on during the verses, it would have been a better song that what it actually is. The lyrics are really creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write Money. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 3/5
Come Together:
For this country-rock style song, the beats are a country style guitar with dull hits on the drums with sharp clashes and an electric guitar. Very rock style yet with a country twist in the mix. Mike's vocals here really good and very creative. He sings country style in the verses but rock style during the chorus. It's a very good mix for the vocals and he stays soulful through the song. At times, he does sing angry though. The lyrics are really creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did not write Come Together. In fact, John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote this. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
You Are Not Alone:
I hope I am not alone by saying this song is pretty good! The beats are a melodic piano with a few sharp clashes and dull hits on the drums. Very easy and mellow track. Mike's vocals here are extreme soulful at its best. He sings somewhat slow and low but it doesn't matter because the song needs that as you just sympathize with this song. It's an uplifting song with tons of soul from Michael. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did not write this. In fact, R. Kelly wrote You Are Not Alone. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Childhood:
A touching song from the movie Free Willy2. The beats are just a boring piano melody but gets better as the bridge arrives. Mike's vocals here are good but sometimes Mike gets out of hand by crying too much. The verses are understandable; it is pretty soulful and has that crying thing in it. Also, it has that upbeat Michael voice but the chorus is way too much girly like as he squeals a bit too much and a bit too much like a girl. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. It helps you understand why Michael does what he do with children. Michael Jackson did write Childhood. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 3/5
Tabloid Junkie:
Taking aim at the public eye, the beats are sharp hits on the drums with sharp clashes and a teeny boppery technical sound in the chorus. Actually, they go well together for the mood of this song. Mike's voice is just like Money. He sings deep and low(this time too low) on the verse and then for the pre-chorus and the chorus, Mike's vocals are upbeat, hearable and soulful yet teeny boppery. The lyrics are really good and creative; also well-written. Michael Jackson did write Tabloid Junkie. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 3/5
2 Bad:
For this 2 bad track, the beats are an electric guitar with tons of technical sounds with sharp hits on the drums with a few really sharp clashes. Really good beats I must say. Mike's vocals here are rock-style. He sings the verses like a rock star as he sings somewhat angry and at a somewhat fast pace. For the chorus, Michael sings at a fast pace and he sings angry and demanding! A really good combination for Mike's vocals. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write 2 Bad. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
HIStory:
For this intended anthem, the beats start off like the Star Spangled Banner but then turns off and into Mike's music. For the verses, a deep and yet sharp technical sound of a drum being hit and a sharp clash. Then they are turned off and turned into a mellow beats with soft hits on the drums with soft clashes for the chorus. Then repeat that process. Mike's vocals here are really good and soulful especially during the chorus. His high points are really good too. It's a somewhat uplifting experience but nothing like Earth Song. The lyrics are extremely creative and well-written. Michael Jackson did write HIStory. Replay Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
Little Suzie:
Starting off as a choir singing, the beats change for Little Suzie and they change into a melodic ballerina music box playing and having a little girl singing La la la. Then they change into an upbeat anthem sort of. The beats for that anthem is deep and loud horns with a soft acoustic guitar in the background and a piano. It's nice but it would have been better if the song started off with just the anthem beats. Mike's vocals here are soulful, excellent and full of emotion. Too bad, we have to wait 2 minutes and 40 some seconds until we hear him singing which takes off severe points off of the score. The lyrics are really good and creative; also well-written. Michael Jackson did write Little Suzie. Replay Value: 4/5 Overall: 3/5
Smile:
The final song off of HIStory. Will it end well? I really highly doubt it. The beats are soft hits on the drums with an uplifting piano tune with a few technical sounds. They are okay; pretty good actually but damn, Mike's vocals aren't that great. Okay, sure he is good on this song, full of emotion and soul but what happens when the King Of Pop's voice is a bit annoying as he sings a bit too slow and the chorus is just horrible. He can't sing the word smile worth a damn! He also stretches his words a bit too far. The lyrics are creative and well-written though. Michael Jackson did not write Smile. Replay Value: 1/5 Overall: 1/5
Bottom Line:
Michael Jackson is very famous and popular in the world. In this 1995 album, Michael Jackson shows you where his history begins( 1979 to 1991) and where his history continues which is 1995. HIStory has his classics first and then his new music back then(1995) continues his legacy. HIStory is a real treat for the fans. Even if you are not a fan, you'll find something you'll like. I know I did and I wasn't a fan of his music back in 1995. It's really no wonder how Michael Jackson has become so famous, so popular, so widely known...and it's all because of his music. His music is one thing but his lyrics are his soul. Truthfully, he writes really good lyrics whether it be about children(his passion), the world, a girl, tabloids etc. His lyrics are from his heart and they are touching to see how Michael has so much talent in writing, dancing and producing his music can be overshadowed by his weird and freaky personality. Let Michael's talent shine and just forget his personality while listening to his music. You would enjoy it a whole lot better!
Best Tracks: Scream, They Don't Care About Us, This Time Around, Earth Song, Heal The World, D.S., Just Can't Stop Loving You, Man In The Mirror Money, Tabloid Junkie, Remember The Time, HIStory--you get the idea right? Most of Disc2 and some on Disc1.
Worst Tracks: Don't Stop Until You Get Enough, Wanna Be Starting Something, Smile, Thriller, Rock With You, Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel--again you get it right? Most of Disc1 and some on disc2.
Great Music To Play While: enjoying Michael's music and respecting the King Of Pop of all his success.
