Poor Choice* (read review)
Date of Review: May 25, 2006
The Bottom Line: Certainly worth trying, 9 reviewers shouldn't be wrong, but after 2 units I find it a poor performer. Please read my review for details.
After reading the reviews here I thought I found the perfect dehumidifier. What really attracted me was all the comments about how quite it is and it's low energy use. Well, it certainly is quite, but other than that I found noting to recommend it.
The only place I could find this unit was Amazon, the price was a little higher than other stores but they actually had it. After I received the unit I plugged it in and it ran for at least a day and nothing collected in the drain pan. Checked the unit over and could find no reason. Amazon promptly replaced it, great company BTW, and the second unit did seem to collect some water. I have a Maytag unit that I use which has a much larger bucket and I find I have to empty it 2 or 3 times a day. I set this unit next to the Maytag, turned the Maytag off, and let the Soleus run in it's place. It ran 36 hour until it filled the much smaller bucket. Humidity crept up.
Since I bought the unit for a second house with a much smaller basement I thought I'd try it there, found basically the same thing. The Soleus runs continuously but removes very little moisture. I have no idea if I got a second bad unit, but I'm certainly NOT going to try a third. I'm going to go through the reviews again and find a different unit.
Bottom line, if you find one locally try it, 9 people shouldn't be wrong, but be prepared to return it.
