Author's Review
The first time I listened to this album was a couple weeks ago, with one of my friends. I talked about burning a couple of songs, but then my friend said "Why not buy it? I highly recommend this album." Then, I thought 'why not buy it?' So here I am writing a review about this CD. This is perhaps arguably the greatest album I have ever purchased.
This review goes by songs.
Under the Bridge- This song got me liking RHCP in the first place. When I was about 2 years old, I used to watch the video for this all the time. I remember it like it was yesterday. I believe that this sounds like 70's rock. (5/5)
Give It Away- One of my favorites. Love the bassline. This is pretty funky and different from the rest.(5/5)
Californication- I didn't really like this song when it first came out, and I feel the same way now. I can't put my finger on why I don't like it. (2/5)
Scar Tissue- I didn't really like this one either. I think this one's a little too slow. (3/5)
Soul To Squeeze- I like this one. It's really chilled and mellow. (4/5)
Otherside- One of my favorites. I loved this song when it came out and still do. The lyrics are good and as always, Flea comes up with another really awesome bassline. (4/5)
Suck My Kiss- This is my 2nd favorite song on this CD. This one is just about as funky as Give It Away. (5/5)
By The Way- I love this song!!!! I love the way it was represented in the video and it was pretty different how it goes from soft to a little louder then back to soft and, just in general, dynamic changes keep it interesting.(5/5)
Parallel Universe- MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!!! Love the bassline. This is different. How they put the notes together like that, I have no idea, it was just brilliant. (5/5)
Breaking the Girl- It's a good song but not one of my favorites. The tempo and vocal part isn't the best out of RHCP. (3/5)
My Friends- The only song that included their guitarist at the time, Dave Navarro. One of the best, because it's mellow and chilled, like Soul To Squeeze. (5/5)
Higher Ground- A really good remake of Stevie Wonder. Also featured on the movie, Center Stage. I like the bassline quite a bit. (5/5)
Universally Speaking- I didn't really care for this song. (2/5)
Road Trippin'- Didn't like this one either. (2/5)
Fortune Faded- Love the song and the video. The bassline and how it fits with the guitar part and so on. (5/5)
Save the Population- Good song. This reminds me of something my friend said. "Did you know, when they say 'stay all night and save the population' they mean get together and have sex?" (5/5)
