Great mini keyboard that is easy to clean
Date of Review: May 25, 2004
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this keyboard to someone looking for a compact, easy to clean keyboard that is very different from everything else out there.
I wrote a review on the full size unit and most of the comments apply to this one as well. You can find that review here:
http://www.epinions.com/content_141397102212 The mini-VIK is a great little keyboard that has a small footprint and is easy to clean. It is enclosed in a thin rubberized housing and the keys are nearly flush to the surface of the keypad. The mini-VIK is about 1/8 of an inch thick between the keys and the keys and another 1/8 of an inch for a total thickness of about 1/4 of an inch. I purchased the USB version.
I bought this unit a few months after I purchased the full sized one. I've been using both for over two years now.
PROS
The mini-VIK has an interesting look which should fit in with any desktop layout. The flexible nature of the rubberized unit makes it easy to pack up and transport if you would want to use this in conjunction with your laptop or other portable system (LAN parties, etc). The mini-VIK is easy to clean and very durable. It stands up to the wear and tear of everyday household cleaners and to the curiosity and sharp claws of two cats.
CONS
This unit has overcome the major drawback of the full size VIK whose keys require you to accurately hit the center of a key. GrandTec has changed the design to a flatter key that is more accommodating to mis-hits, resulting is less frequent missed characters on your monitor. Overall the unit is more usable than its big brother, but it still takes some getting used to. You may have to sacrifice some speed for this keyboard.
If you need a keypad, this unit is not for you. It is a compact model that provides the minimum assortment of keys.
