Yeah, we remember that day folks when Janet Jackson revealed her breast on national television in front of millions of people. She got away with it, saying that the only thing that was supposed to come off was the top part covering the cover on top of her bra. However, the whole thing came off and it become "The Best Super Bowl Half-time Show Ever"(In my opinion). However, going into the subject. Papa Roach released their 3rd album in 2004 with the title "Getting Away With Murder". How ironic for me to joke with the whole "getting away" part. "Getting Away With Murder" is a different side of the band; there's no heavy-metal and there's no rapping. Basically, Papa Roach sound like a regular rock band. However, reading the reviews on this site of their 2002 "LoveHateTragedy" album, it was NOT a success. So for those that were disappointed by that album, this is definitely worth listening to.

The three "key" tracks that you MUST listen to first is pure examples of the passion and soul that the band puts in their music. "Take Me" is a track that is remarkable by the power of the production even though it's not too heavy but not too light. Melodic and edgy guitars with a soothing bass. Coby Dick sings with pure passion. High pitch screams, scorching mellow tones and one hell of a catchy chorus.
As days go by, my heart goes cold....take me in, don't break me.
"Scars" is a high-school anthem by the beautiful production featuring sultry and soothing guitars and a mild and easy-going bass. The "Bowling For Soup" vocals for the verses while high pitch yells bring the chorus(
Our scars remind us that the past is real) only makes the track even more fantastic.
"Sometimes" follows along with it's quiet and fragile guitar and a kick-a** chorus that packs edgy and heavy guitars/bass. Dick's shy vocals and the screeching and well-crafted yells-- It's a track that is beautiful and emotional.
"Blood(Empty Promises)" is a pure punk track. Angry, edgy and heavy guitars with a pounding drum work. Sultry echoes and foundation-built high pitch screams make this track easy to listen to.
"Not Listening" comes butting in with it's edgy and fast paced guitars and drum work. Vocal choices are the same; echoes, eerie screams and fast paced vocal work. It's the ordinary choices for rock bands, don't you think?
Truth doesn't always have to hurt... is found in "Start Looking/Start Seeing". The production is the same; edgy and fast paced guitars and drum rock. Vocals are extremely impressive-- very angry and eerie high pitched yells/screams mixed with fast paced singing.
I'll never be the same...it doesn't have to hurt.
Is it possible...I'm "Getting Away With Murder" is a decent track. The track is fairly heavy with the pounding bass and the guitars are fairly well crafted. Vocally, the chorus is pretty catchy being Coby's vocals being so damn smart-a** and the hollow vocals on the verses are pretty good. I don't really know whats the matter with this track to be honest with you. It's not one of my favorites for sure.
Another punk track, "Done With You" is a well crafted with the sultry and robotic guitars and the drum work pounds away. Coby's vocals are angry, intense and he doesn't get a breathe of air on this one. High pitched yells mixed in with echoes, stressing of lyrics and soothing vocals.
I am awake..hiding under this "Blanket Of Fear" is another amazingly crafted track with it's heavy tone. Guitars are insanely plucked and the drums are getting the hell beat out of them. Vocals are extraordinary--Coby mixes it a bit; cocky and totally confident and then angry and screaming. Genius work!
Your nightmares might seem like they are your reality.
It's never to late to live your life.. is from "Do Or Die" and there is more from where that came from! Guitars are soothing with it's 'robotic' sound and the drum work is mild and it's never too heavy. Vocals are still done great; the chorus is catchy with Coby's fun attitude and the rest is angry and yelling done by Mr. Coby.
I believe the only bad tracks are "Be Free" and "Tyranny Normality". Basically, what is wrong with them is that the passion and creative sound is gone in both of these tracks. "Be Free" is an angry disco song with it's disco melody in the guitars but with the edgy and heavy drum work. "Tyranny Normality" has no creativity in it whatsoever! Production is jumping all over the place with it's guitars being not directed in the right direction and the drum work is ludacris.
Both tracks, the vocals suck. "Tyranny" being the worst with Coby just screaming all over the place with no smoothness to it and it's not well directed either. "Be Free" does have some good vocals--the chorus is so freaking catchy
Sick and tired of being sick and tired...I wanna be free from these bottom chains...I wanna be free from you. However, Coby seriously messes up on the verses with the cocky and retarded rock vocals.
At the end of this album, you will finally let a sigh out due to all the tense screams/yells, soothing vocals and echoes done by Coby and the "fun to listen to and it totally makes you say Rock On" production. "Getting Away With Murder", the album, is the second best album from this band(out of three haha). It has it's seriously beautiful moments("Scars" anyone?) and it has it's intense(but never heavy) moments(COUGH* "Not Listening" COUGH*). It's basically built on what a rock album should be like. Intense, fun, and enjoyable. Should you get it? Definitely. Should you get the rest Papa Roach music? Definitely. Why start and stop here?
