Garmin 110? Get Ready for Problems!

Here's a clue as to how well the Garmin 110 performed: The FIRST unit, brand new out of the box, managed to hook up with the Satellites just once and had to be shipped back to Garmin for a replacement. If you can't hook up with a satellite, the unit is just as good as rock off the ground. No tracking, no compass, no nothing.

I bought the Garmin on the advertising that the unit was easy to use. Bring it out into the field, click it on, and you were off, with your trusty 110 tracking your every step: Don't believe it !!

The instruction manuals are incomprehensible. Even the so-called quick-start manual was so incomplete that it was misleading and unusable. After several calls to the tech service line, I found myself writing up my own 'users manual' so I could figure out how the thing worked, or more accurately, didn't.

I came to be afraid of having to figure out how to use new features since each time meant a minimum of two hours and a call out to Garmin headquarters. I eventually gave up trying to use new features, which was very disappointing since it seemed to have a lot of features I wanted to use.

The only thing more disorganized than the user manual is the software in the unit. It is not intuitive at all and one finds oneself clicking about helplessly trying to get to the operation one wants to use. Referring to the user manual to sort it out was an exercise in futility.

All in, a bad experience. I'd recommend just about any other GPS unit.
