Handle with care!

Date of Review:  May 26, 2003
The Bottom Line: Great unit for the car, but doesn't stand up to outdoor use.
Review: I bought my E-Trex Legend in May 2002 mostly for hiking and backpacking trips. It's been a love/hate relationship ever since. I use Topo USA and Metro USA software to download maps and information to my Legend. This feature is great! I have been...

Excellent GPS unit!

Date of Review:  Mar 29, 2002
The Bottom Line: Easy-to-use, highly recommended. It's getting four stars simply because it's the only GPS unit I've used. I doubt for the money there are many more better than this.
Review: With much trepidation, I finally jumped into the GPS realm with this unit. I had many fears of hard-to-follow instructions and disappointing results. To my pleasant surprise, Garmin came through with flying colors with the eTrex Legend.

Love the Technology, Would like Better implementation

Date of Review:  Aug 8, 2003
The Bottom Line: Ok as a gift, would rather have it integrated into my Palm
Review: When I first told my wife about geocaching her response to me was, "You would think people have better things to do with their lives." But she purchased an eTrex for me for Christmas anyway. She also purchased the MapSource street maps of the US...

Small, rugged, inexpensive, tons of features

Date of Review:  Jan 26, 2004
The Bottom Line: A fantastic portable GPS unit that has many uses. It isn't perfect, but is still head and shoulders over other units out there. I wouldn't suggest using in the car.
Review: I am a runner and wanted a GPS unit that I could carry with me which would allow me to track the distance that I went and later upload data to a computer to track speed and elevation change (whatever unit I chose didn't have to include the software...

Fine in the open, terrible in the trees!

Date of Review:  Jul 1, 2005
The Bottom Line: If you arent going to be hiking in the forest and/or mountains, this GPS is a good option.
Review: It seems by reading tons of reviews on the Legend that the antenna really is the achilles heel of this GPS! In the 3 years I've had my unit, I can say that this is true too. The people who dont experience problems are most likely in flat areas with...

Good GPS unit for the casual user

Date of Review:  Jan 26, 2008
The Bottom Line: The Etrex Legend needs a perfectly clear sky with no cloud cover or trees in order to lock on to the satellites.
Review: I bought my etrex from Costco. They had a 30 dollar off special and I've been meaning to buy a hand held GPS unit ever since my wife and I got hopelessly lost on a recent hike we took.
The eTrek legend was advertised as having this capability...

A good gps unit for the money

Date of Review:  Sep 28, 2007
The Bottom Line: good for if you enjoy the outdoors, but for vehicle navigation its a little tough.
Review: This small, but powerful gps unit works well for exploring the urban jungle as well as nature. It lets you record your location and track your wherabouts. It lets you navigate towards your point with great accuracy. I like to use it to see the speed...

Extrex Legend - Excellent GPS

Date of Review:  Feb 14, 2002
The Bottom Line: Get One, You Will Love It!!

This GPS has more features than a...

Small and Portable

Date of Review:  Apr 8, 2005
The Bottom Line: If you want, take a look at the competing brands, but Garmin has a good reputation and this is GPS is not too basic or not too cluttered with features.
Review: The Garmin GPS Legend is a mid to high-end handheld GPS unit. P

WHO IS IT FOR?
This unit is best suited to hikers due to its portablity and water resistancy (although I'd still be cautious about getting an expensive unit like that...

Good Entry Level GPS

Date of Review:  May 14, 2009
The Bottom Line: Great option for the casual user on a budget, but if I were lost in the wilderness - I'd probably want more.
Review: I purchased this GPS as an entry level handheld to test out the Geocaching phenomenon. If you've never heard of Geocaching, I'd sum it up as a worldwide Easter Egg hunt. People with GPS devices hide weatherproof "caches" all over the planet and...
