Author's Review

We purchased this GE profile french door frig/freezer in 08/06. While it looks like a chic appliance in my kitchen it truly is a piece of junk. And an expensive one at that. First of all - don't purchase this with the ice maker and water dispenser on the inside. What a waste of electric constantly opening the doors when you need a glass of water! Plus when you have kids, the door is always open! This was mistake #1. From the day we received this - the items in the freezer were constantly and intermittently "frosty". I was thinking that it was one of the kids not closing the freezer door properly but come to realize that the freezer temp itself does not regulate properly. I am now paranoid and constantly check the temp dispay in inside to make sure things are ok. Well, we came home from vac and the first night home, the ice maker completey malfunctioned and dumped water all over my entire kitchen floor flooding the floor and then seeping down into my drywalled portion of our finished basement. The sliding door completely froze shut and we could not open it. Once we did open it the entire ice tray and all over the inside of the freezer was a block of ice. Took forever to try to defrost and open and then emptied the ice maker, cleaned it all out and started over. This brings up the ice maker - VERY cheaply made - one piece fell off the ice maker and is a NIGHTMARE to put back on! But since this last disaster, it's been ok up until this past week. I noticed that over the last 3 weeks or so, the display inside the frig started dimming and flickering intermittently and now goes completely out at times. The frig seems to run non-stop and I find the food in the freezer starting to defrost. I also noticed that the immediate area around the light and around the edges of the freezer gets VERY hot - doesn't seem right I also noticed that the slide freezer door does not seem to seal properly - so I am constantly pushing hard on the door to make sure it's sealed shut. As of today, it's clicking every 2 seconds and the display inside says -47 for the freezer and -40 for the frig. Should be 0 and 37. I experience items freezing in the back of the frig too. Hopefully, it will make it one more day until the repair person arrives. I have to say - I hate this refrigerator! Not only does it not function properly but The grill that goes across the bottom is broken and does not stay on, the track inside for the slide drawer broke and is not on the track. It's a waste of money and will never buy another like it again! I can't believe I have to live with this thing for the next 15 years. LOL. I purchased this at Best Buy 8/06 and fortunatley, I did purchase the extended warranty on it so I have a repair person coming tomorrow to look at this frig at no cost to me and I will PUSH for this to be fixed properly - but I'm sure it won't happen without some headaches..
