I have good news,yes I really do. I call the GE people and talked to the people at 1-800-848-7620 Customer Relations. After going into detail about the date I bought the oven and the problems I had with the arcing, the lady told me that the magnetron tube was under warranty for 5 years and that they would supply a NEW tube at no charge. I was transferred to another department where a very nice young man by the name of Ronnie took my info and is having a tube shipped to my home at no cost. Wow, I was both shock and very pleased. Ronnie told me that the tube is under warranty for not 5 years BUT 10 years. He said if it arcs again ... just call and get a new tube.

I know all of you who have not trashed the product will be pleased you can fix the oven at no cost... changing the tube is a breeze.

UPDATE:



I found that the anode of the tube had burned badly and the tube had to be replaced. Now I am waiting for the unit to become ready... will up date as the repairs progress.

I too bought my oven in July of 2004 and only a month ago it started arcing from the microwave tube tip to the case behind the main oven stainless steel shinny insides. I took to a local repair shop and the man replaced the fiber cover over the whole in the oven wall. That lasted about 2 weeks and it burned again. We were using a cover on all dishes and no food was on the cover plate. The repairman also had put some white anti-arc paint on the area where the burn had happened. Well AGAIN it started arcing and again burned the metal casing. There is no place on the GE web site to find any help. NONE. I feel I have been robbed by this company. 2 years is a sorry life period for this product. I have had one other oven and it lasted 10 years and I just threw it away because I sure got my money's worth out of it. This oven has not shown much of a service life to me and if it is not replaced I do not plan to by a GE microwave oven again in the future. The design is rather poor as it allows the anode of the tube to arc to the case for no reason. I can not find any real help on their website.
