Nothing but repair visits with this freezer

The Bottom Line: Avoid this freezer if you are in the market. It has tons of problems.
UPDATE: It is now January 8, 2009. We've waited six months for the replacement freezer to be delivered. We can't tell you how much time this has taken in emails, phone calls, letters, etc. and how frustrating this all has been. Who needs this sort of hassle in our already frenzied lives.... But at least Frigidaire made good on their promise to replace the faulty freezer.
We'll see if this one is any better.The model number of this freezer is GLFH21F8HW. Stay tuned. We will be reporting on this adventure over the next weeks.
Original Message: My husband and brother-in-law came home from a fishing trip with 200 pounds of wild-caught tuna and halibut--quite a catch. We thought this would be the best opportunity to purchase an upright freezer, which we had been thinking of doing for quite a while, but never quite wanted to spend the money ($800) to do so.
I immediately got on the internet to research various freezers, as I obviously needed to buy something FAST. Unfortunately for me, I was under a time constraint. I saw the negative reviews on this freezer, but kind of ignored them, as our favorite store to purchase appliances (Aztec Appliances, San Diego) seemed to endorse the freezer.
WHAT A MISTAKE! If we can help any other people who may be considering this piece of junk, don't plunk down $800! We've had nothing but problems. The repair people have been here four times. At this point, we are awaiting a new seal because there is a 2 inch layer of ice all around the rim of the door.
We can't believe how appliances have deteriorated in quality over the years. There was a time when you purchased Maytag or Frigedaire, etc. when you would be assured of a quality appliance without problems. Now, all you can do is expect problems when you buy an appliance.
I am writing this because reviews on the internet have helped me avoid clunkers that I would have purchased, save for the kind souls out there who took the time and trouble to describe the problems they encountered.
Again, don't buy this freezer if you can help it!
