Author's Review
Fantastic. Everything I could wish for. We didn't need the steamer option and the fancy colors offered on some washers, so I researched looking for a good buy; and this is the best out there. The price difference was unbelievable to me, what some people will pay for options I'd never use if I had them!
This machine uses less water for our week's worth of laundry than my old one did per load. After all my laundry had been through a couple times, everything seemed cleaner & brighter than before.
I use a fraction of the detergent than what was needed in my old machine too. I use HE detergent when it is available, but often where we live it's not available so I use (1/4 to 1/3 cup) of regular liquid detergent. I would recommend using the HE detergent and use white vinegar for fabric softener for the first month or so to get rid of the extra soap & deposits on your laundry; since regular detergent and heavy fabric softeners can cause excess suds in your machine. After I had washed everything a couple times though, it's not been any problem for me to use regular detergent. I like to use white vinegar instead of fabric softener as I'm sensitive to the perfumes, but do use fabric softener on some items.
I don't have the problem of the machine being noisy or jumping around that previous reviewers mentioned. We did the installation ourselves and double checked that they are level. Once in a while if I wash a bedspread or something heavy that gets off balance, it does rock a little; but I'm learning how to balance the loads better and it's seldom an issue. I never have to worry about leaving the house, it is just not that severe when it does happen.
I wish the drawer where you put the detergent & other additives were better designed. I'm a little over 5' tall, and with the machine on the pedestal it is a little 'iffy' when I'm pouring to hit the right spot; very worrisome with the bleach especially (Ha!) To make it easier for me I get smaller containers or buy the big ones and refill smaller bottles as needed. However, this is the same with every washer I looked at, so not specific to this model.
I know you'll hear this a dozen times, but you really will never regret buying the pedestals for the set. Leaning over to put things in and out is unbelievably uncomfortable and tiresome. I was looking forward to not crawling on top the machines to dig the clothes from the bottom of the tub of my top-loader; but leaning over to drag them out at knee level wasn't as much an improvement as I wished.
We bought the machines in February, and by July I bought the pedestals as an anniversary gift to myself. It is also provides a convenient storage space for laundry supplies, since the cupboards above are inconvenient for me to reach now that the pedestals are in place. (Don't forget to level the machines again if you wait to get pedestals later)
The washer spins the clothes much better than my old top load, though it was a good Whirlpool heavy duty model. The clothes take much less time to dry since there is less water in them to begin with, and when I hang things on the line they finish out softer since they start less soggy.
