Product Review

As a prototype its not bad

by   spacefinders ,   Dec 4, 2002

Pros:  large screen,easy scrolling

Cons:  very poor battery life, lots of glare on screen

The Bottom Line:  In conclusion its a nice idea which doesn't work in practice. I wish I had saved my money : it would have bought a lot of paperbacks.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

I purchased this to read e-books , not to use as a PDA.The advertising indicated it could hold several books in its memory and it seemed an ideal thing to carry on trips , holidays etc.Sadly the whole concept is ruined by its silly battery life. It has two AAA batteries which don't last long enough to read even one book ! To reduce running costs I now use rechargable batteries, but there is no way of charging them in-situe which is an anoying shortcomming. Nor is there any way of using an external power supply . As mentioned in other reviews the glare from the screen is excessive. The desktop manager (the software on the Pc which you use to load the bookman) isn't very user friendly. It has a library folder where you keep the downloaded texts . These have names such as " rffls.txt", which is fine if you remember what it actually is. If you forget the manager has no way of opening the file to check what its full title is so you have to load it into the bookman to find out.
