I purchased a Certified Preowned 2004 Ford Escape about a month ago. My initial impressions about the car are all positive. The car is easy to maneuver, powerful on a climb and fun to drive. The Escape is a small SUV, with all of the functionality of a larger model. The interior of the car is roomy, seating five comfortably. There is a cargo area in the rear with side organizers for odds and ends and the rear seats fold down to increase the cargo space. The cargo area is big enough to transport groceries for four or backpacks and sports equipment. My car is a basic stock version XLS with airbags, CD player, cloth interior and a V6 engine. The stereo system sounds good and the seats are made from a durable denim material that will hold up well under normal use. There is a hatch door in the rear of the vehicle making it easy to load and unload groceries. The really cool element of the rear door is that the glass can open independently of the door. Sometimes I use this feature if I just need to grab something quick from the back. I use the car to transport my kids to school and activities and visit the horse stable and I feel that it works well under these conditions, making my life easier.
There is only one con associated with the Escape so far and that is that the middle console (which is big, I might add) rattles around and makes the ride a bit noisy.
Features like the cargo area, rear window function and V6 engine make this an SUV worth looking at. I bought this model thinking that if I liked driving it, I would upgrade to the hybrid model. So far, I'm liking my experience.
