'A Fistful of Dollars' - probably worth a few dollars more!
Pros:
Director: Sergio Leone, musical score: Enio Morricone, star: Clint Eastwood...'nuff said!
Cons:
Slower than 'TG, TB, TU'. Musical theme not as hair raising as same.
The Bottom Line:
I recommend this film to any big Western film or Clint Eastwood fan, but really I think any action fan should enjoy it!

INTRO:
The West...the wild, wild West. Probably one of the most lawless times for America in history, where gun fighters took over towns, sherrifs were constantly stripped of their badges, and basically anything went...well at least that's the West portrayed in 'A Fistful of Dollars', Sergio Leone's first in the 'man with no name' trilogy. 'A Fistful of Dollars' delivers all the action-packed suspense you could ever dream of in the Spaghetti Western film genre!!
CHARACTER:
Clint Eastwood plays one of his most memorable roles as the drifter, complete with cigar butt to one side of mouth, the famous dirty green pancho, the dirty tan leather boots and, of course, the dark leather hat. I can't say much else about Eastwoods 'man with no name' because, to tell you the truth, he hardly has an actual character...he has a shell of a guy who no one knows anything about!
BASIC PLOT SUMMARY:
The movie follows the journey of a man caught in the midst of a power struggle for supreme ownership of a virtually otherwise abandoned town.
Two opposing sides, battling it out constantly, fight for the right to call the town theres...and they'll do whatever it takes.
Clint Eastwood (also stars in 'For a Few Dollars More', 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly', 'High Plains Drifter' and 'The Unforgiven', just to name a few) plays the 'man with no name', his most famous role in any western, a man we know absolutely nothing about...not even his name.
He's a drifter...a wanderer...a nomad, with no ambition in life other than to earn a bit of cash and then live easy in retirement, and when he passes through the little abandoned town (afore described) he is interested and intrigued by the ongoing war that the two clans face, the two sides being the Roho's, a large group of dirty, dirty mexicans who cheat, lie, steal and rob banks, and the Baxters, a family of whites, up to absolutely no good either, who live in a large house, right opposite the Roho's, and about 200 metres away from it!
Now, when the wanderer enters the town, the Baxters catch sight of him first and don't like the look of him one bit. So, they decide to ridicule him, frightening his mule (that's right, mule. Don't worry, he gets a horse later on hahaha) by shooting at its feet and sending it into a bucking frenzy. Well, the mules shaken up, and Clint manages to jump off it before he goes flying to the ground.
He also manages to earn himself a room at an old hotel that hasn't had a customer in years by shooting the four men that previously teased him and his mule and taking the Baxters numbers down four.
The man with no name soon finds out just what's going on with the two sides and he decides after much consideration to see if he can worm his way into the Roho's. And eventually, he does...
As the film progresses, the drifter ends up joining both sides, benknown to the opposing side, and doing deeds for both, however, his plans go down the drain when the Roho's suspect him of knowing something about the murder of a whole bunch of their men (in which he did actually commit, trying to shift the blame to the Baxters and give things a little kick start) and they beat him to a bloody pulp. However, he does escape their custody eventually, breaking out into a flat crawl along the dirt to escape the Roho's fortress.
The game is on when the Roho's find that he has escaped, and the two sides get into a battle worse than ever, leaving the Baxters worse for ware.
What will the drifter do now?
See this film and find out!
SOUNDTRACK:
Enio Morricone's first soundtrack in the 'man with no name' saga leaves a big impression and changed how western film directors planned their sountracks for the years to come. A truly classic theme is heard throughout the movie, and really sets the scene.
CONCLUSION:
'A Fistful of Dollars' is certainly a top class western, complete with non stop, edge-of-your-seat action and truly nail-biting suspense! Enjoy!
