Awesome vac and has good looks too!

Date of Review: Apr 23, 2007

The Bottom Line:  I love this vacuum, and still love it.
Why didn't we move from our older Hoover vacuum sooner? Well at least we had waited for the Infinity NV30 Upright vacuum.

We've had a bagged upright Hoover for sometime, after all they take a licking and keep on ticking, but, ohh, the dust and muss when it's time to replace the bag (or one that has a pinhole in it.) Over time, even with new bags, this vac has finally just not kept up with cleaning. We've drooled over the Dyson series of Vacuum cleaners and their cleaning power, but the price has just been too high. Thinking it'd sure be a boon to have a better vacuum, we went for the Infinity after comparing the cost and the technologies. After all initiation is the best form of flattery and the two seemed very comparable.

That said, we were extremely pleased when we had taken it home, assembled it and proceeded to vacuum floors we had just vacuumed the day prior. The amount of dust, loose carpet lint and other stuff the vacuum picked up was just amazing. Since that day, it has continued to perform without any loss of performance. We just empty the vacuum after each cleaning and then wash and rinse out the parts about every four or five cleanings (so as to be certain it is absolutely spot on for power). We are also pleased with the HEPA filter as we haven't had to do anything with it yet and it's amazing how the room air is cleaner after a vacuum job in a room with all the attachments. Complements our whole house air cleaning system just fine. It would get a work out with our older vacuum and the amounts of dust it would scatter.

We haven't had any problems with the Infinity vacuum, but when checking the website the price of replacement parts seems extremely reasonable.

UPDATE:

Noticed some questions in the comment section, so I thought I'd add more detail as suggested.

1. Filters (including HEPA) are all washable. The vacuum comes with a set of filters in the vac and an extra set of the foam and felt filters that you can use while the first set dry. In addition, the air path of the vacuum is through the filters regardless if using the tools or not. Interestingly the wand plugs into the base and is the actual air path of the vacuum. This means that the incredible suction is available at the same force for the tools as it is when using the base. Only con, and not a biggy, is that I typically need to place a foot on the vacuum, as the suction of the wand can cause the vac to tip over (powerful suction)! If this isn't possible, you may find this annoying.

2. Emptying the canister is very easy. There is a toggle further up the canister that you can push, this drops open the bottom of the canister to empty the dust/dirt. Because the canister is long enough to hold into a trash bag when you trigger the toggle, it's less messy in my opinion than a bag that spills into the cavity of a bagged vacuum cleaner.

3. You can lower the handle of the vacuum all the way to the floor and still have the power head in contact with the floor, this allows the vacuum to reach significantly further under furniture than my previous bag vac could (after a particular point the base would tip up on the older vac).

4. Weight, it's not light, but was lighter than most of the other bag less/cyclonic vacuums we looked at in the store. It's luggable up the stairs, but may require two hands for some owners when carrying it up.

5. Noise, quieter than my Hoover but not silent. I'd say at least half as quite as my previous vac. Seemed on par with several other quality uprights we tried in the store.

6. Construction seems pretty durable. The extensible metal wand is certainly more durable than the plastic one we had on our older vac. The vacuum comes with an extra replacement belt for the beater brush. The wand also doubles as the handle when using it in the upright mode. A little play as the handle as a result, but not annoying to me or my spouse. All the removable parts are designed to be washed. The 24 cyclone head has a water rinse port on the top, so it's fairly mess free to clean in our deeper double sink. I empty it into the trash first then take it apart. This is about the only portion that gets my hands dirty and during the washing; they come clean along with the vacuum filters, canister and cyclone head.

New Gripe: The vacuum cleans so well, pulling up so much dust and dirt, I frequently have to empty the canister 3 times in our 2800 SQFT home. Those with less carpet will find it easier to keep up with the dirt. Note that I also feel that the amount that it pulls up is a real plus, so this gripe doesn't reduce my opinion. Secondly, when cleaning, it's important to pay attention to how the filters are removed so that they go back together in the same order. The Foam and Felt filters before the HEPA filter could be placed wrong and lead to suction issues (the Foam is to the clear plastic top, the felt towards the black plastic lid and the HEPA filter).
