Big Bang for the Buck
Date of Review: Nov 29, 2005
The Bottom Line: Go for it if you have the bucks and a big, heavy, lead-like foot.
Though this unit is not the cheapest on the market for a detector that picks up virtually all types of radar, it is a solid performer.
The X50 red is the size of a large remote control and has decent hardware that makes installation and mounting a breeze. I use it on the dash attached to the windshield and it has never fallen off even in 100 degree summer temperatures. I do have the unit resting flat on the dash, however, as well as being affixed to the windshield.
The unit performs just fine though the first time it went through its automatic self-calibration, I practically veered off the road not knowing what it was doing. That was nothing compared to when it first went off a month after I bought it as I was laser tagged by a trooper and practically wet myself in the process (I was only given a minor traffic hazard violation even though I had been flying).
I like the features and build. I have called customer service and they were helpful once they knew I was a registered owner. They told me that if "service required" appeared on unit to turn it off, hold three buttons while turning back on to reset and be sure to turn unit off when left plugged into cig lighter. I didn't have to leap on one foot while chanting "Escort...Escort" though thank goodness.
I do not like the high price and the fit in my cig lighter (too tight).
I would recommend it all things considered.
