Author's Review
Our company bought this printer to give us control with our photo printing. I was happy with our old (processed film) photo lab, but with this printer I no longer use them. At all.
If you start with a high-rez file, and set the printing preferences correctly, you will not be disappointed. I have printed over a thousand images (most of them 8 x 10) and they are indistinguishable from a processed print. Just amazing. (btw, my results are based on using Epson's Premium Glossy Photo Paper). For those that are curious, the fastest ink carts I go through are Gloss Optimizer (about 60-8 x 10's), Magenta (about 70-8 x 10's) and Cyan and Yellow (about 105-8 x 10's for each). I use only Epson inks, and have found the best price so far at inkjetarts.com.
Print speed is acceptable at about 3 mins for an 8 x 10. There is no need to set the quality at Best Photo. I can't tell the difference, and the speed drops way way down.
The only glitch I've run into is a rare piece of paper that, for some, reason, gets a strange smear near the bottom right corner. It's definitely in the paper, as cleaning the nozzles didn't cure it. Swapping out for new paper did.
I am running this Photo R800 connected via Firewire to my Powerbook (Mac) and printing from Photoshop using Adobe RGB 1998 color profile.
