Durable, high quality, uses little ink

Date of Review: Sep 22, 2007

The Bottom Line:  Don't toss it when it finally needs servicing after half a million pages - it's a workhorse with excellent output. Remembers where you were if something does go wrong.
I've had my R300 for years + I'm paying almost $150 parts+labor to have the rolling paper-grabber replaced because it's the first and only problem I've had and it still prints beautifully (when it takes the paper). I've probably printed 400,000 pages of text over the years, and the output looks as good as the day I bought it. I only buy ink about twice a year because (1) I always look at the print preview [and have started to use Acrobat if I don't need a hard copy to read in comfort], (2) I always print DRAFT ("economy") copies -- 2-3 seconds a page? -- unless I'm archiving something important, and (3) I always print a draft of a photograph first, too (or a thumbnail for color settings), before committing to the real thing. A draft uses barely any ink at all.

It's true that the little "you're getting low on one of your six ink cartridges" light NEVER stops blinking, but it's so small it doesn't bother me, even here in the bedroom. (A person could cover it with something.) I've never used the media-printer option, and this is by no means a FAST printer, but I've been more than happy with the output.

Recommended to buy: Yes

Pros
Perfect output, uses ink up according to USER'S settings (paper type, etc), extremely reliable.
Cons
Slow on the final draft. An 8X10 with optimal settings can take a whole minute.
