Author's Review
First let me begin by saying that this series of books is very complicated, and before I talk about the book I will explain exactly how this world works.
These people live on a world called Pern. The geographical structure of this planet is very similiar to Earths. Now, this beautiful planet also has it's dangers. Every 200 years, Pern passes close enough to a certain "Red Star," Which causes mycorrhizoid spores to drop from the skys, also known as thread. If these Threads are allowed to touch Perns fertile soil, they will instantly burrow into the fertile soil and devour all organic material until all of Pern is dead and decayed. What is preventing this awful calamity? Dragons.
Our story begins with the Dragonriders of pern searching for a woman to bond with a Queen dragon. They happen to discover Lessa, a strong, intelligent, and beautiful Weyrwoman,(a Weyr is the place in which dragons are kept.) Now lately, all the people have begun to believe that all threads have ceases to exist, the reason is because instead of the usual 200 year wait, there has been 400. But now they are back, and the people of Pern find themselves dangerously low on dragons. Lessa, her brilliant mind achurn with ideas, hatches a daring plan. Will it work? Or will Pern become a withering dying planet?
Ann Mcaffrey spins a tale so fine that you would have to have a hawks vision to see it. Every detail fits together in place and nothing controdicts itself, the book is full of typos but a genius does not bother with such things. Such as miself. Seee? This book, with its wonderfully crafted plot, and fineley sewn details it becomes so real that you feel as if it will spread it's wings and fly.
