Uh, Goku, Trunks has this one

The final DBZ movie is now in the USA. One of the best features ever released, but once again, way to short. For those who have no clue what DBZ is, let me tell you.

DBZ (Dragonball Z) is the sequal to the Dragonball cartoon which is the animated story based on the Shoen Jump comic. Dragonball was based on a little boy and a teen age girl having adventures while looking for the seven magical dragonballs that the holder of can make a wish.

Kids grow up, and Goku (the boy) is now a man. He has a son Gohan and Dragonball Z tells the story of his son growing up. Midway through the series, the focus shifts back to Goku.

This movie is based after Majin Buu has been dispatched and before Dragonball GT.

The story is pretty simple. An evil magician brings to life a terrible creature named Hirudegarn. It wreaks havic on a distant planet and if it were not for two fighters Taipon and Minosha, the whole planet would have been destroyed. The two use magic flutes to captire the monster in themselves and then the two heroes are locked into music boxes to make sure the creature can never do anyone harm.

Fast forward 1,000 years and a descendant (I assume, it is never really established) of the evil magician tricks Goku and the Z Fighters into opening one of the boxes using the dragonballs. Since a wish has been dispensed, one year must pass before they can be used again. So, Goku and company must destroy the monster themselves.

Gohan and Videl (his girlfriend) are in the Saiyaman disguises and they fight the lower half of the monster. How the other music box was opened, you will never know, one of the flaws with the movie. If dragonballs were needed to open the other box, how did this one get open? I digress. Gohan defeats the creature, or so it seems and spots Tapion in the distance playing his flute.

Trunks, who is an admirer of the released Taipon tries to make friends with him by bringing him food and tryinbg to talk with him. At this point in the picture, you sense something is wrong with this guy but what? Taipon falls asleep and you see the upper half of the creature start to come out of a portal. Taipon quickly grabs his flute and puts the creature back in his body. Apparently when he sleeps, the creature can escape.

Bulma (Trunks mother) makes a sleeping chamber that is supposed to prevent it from happening. The lower half makes another appearance, and everyone is looking at Taipon for being responsible. When Trunks brings Taipon a meal, the creature that tricked Goku at the beginning tries to destroy the flute of Taipon. It is now apparent he is evil and the desendant of the magician.

Taipon can no longer hold the creature in and the two halfs are joined together. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Goten, trunks, and Gotanks (Goten and Trunks fused together) cannot stop the monster. All looks lost when Taipon recaptures the creature in himself with the flute. He asks Trunks to strike him down, but he cannot.

Once again, the creature escapes, but this time the flute is broken. Now what? Trunks, using the magical sword from Taipon cuts the creatures tail off and looks like he will cut him to shreds, but Goku stops him.

Goku then uses his Dragon Fist and destroys the creature.

My one beef with this movie is, why always Goku? Can't someone else besides him and Gohan win a fight? I would have loved to see Trunks beat this monster. It kind of ruined the movie.

The film did answer where Trunks sword came from and who gave it to him. It also had a heart tugging scene when Trunks is asked to kill Taipon.

Overall, this is one of the better DBZ movies out there, and a good ending to the movie series.
