Safety 1st Perfect Fit Gate.

Our home now has four gates. We have two of these, the Safety First Perfect Fit Gate.

Not a Gate?

Though this gate does come with optional hinges it seems to me, from observing other households, that most people do not use them.

The fact is without using hinges this is not a gate as I think of them, something that can swing open and then be shut. This is Safety First gate is more a Safety First Barrier. Once it is in position it doesn't open and close. It has to be removed and reset. That makes it a bit awkward and cumbersome especially if trying to make way from room to room. It becomes an obstruction in the home. That said , there's also the factor that a true gate must be mounted on a wall and that means installation and holes. Therefore thought must be made in deciding what kind of gate suits the needs of the household.

Some Safety Gate Info

As mentioned the gate can be mounted with the hinges. Most often though people use it without that installation.
The gate is basically two panels that slide in front of each other extending or closing to the size that is needed. A single handle that fits the hand well is used to unlock and set the size making the gate fairy easy to take off and return each time.

Unlike other gates with mesh or bars this one gives no area that can be climbed on with its plastic sheeting that cleans easily. No fingers getting caught in it either. I wonder how the gate would stand up to a dog scratching on it. Don't know. The gate is designed for little ones ages 6 to 24 months. The weight of older children could tend to make the gate loosen, though it does lock tight.

The gate also has a system where it can pivot its center to help the gate meet uneven walls. This is helpful with our situation where the gate is on one solid wall and the uneven banister on the other side.

Last Thoughts

This gate is easier to handle than many others we have used over time. The handle fits ell to the hand and offers a place so the gate can be held easily. Most others the hand would have to move from a lever to the top to move. On this one the hand stays in place.

It locks well and on uneven surfaces too.

Having a slick surface that can't be climbed easily also makes it safer and less inviting for little ones to try and maneuver over.

It cleans well.

All and all I like this Safety First Perfect Fit gate.
