Author's Review

I purchased this machine because of the Denon name and the fact that it's a 5 disk changer, has the Faoudja chip, uses the fiber optic Toslink audio connection and could read DVD's, DVD-R, MP3's, CD-R & CD-RW's. It worked fine for about 3-4 weeks, then I started to get "disk error, please eject the disk, playback feature may not be available on this disk" for almost every disk.
This machine has trouble recognizing the disks placed in the tray, you get clicks & whirrs for about 40 seconds, then you get the "disk error,..." message. At first I thought that the machine had trouble reading from the first tray because it happend mostly on tray 1,but it also happens in the other trays. I strongly believe that there is a problem with the design of the tray, the disks sit loosly in the slot which may cause them not to be centered.
I have to open & close the tray four or five times (at times more) before it will read the disk, by the time it finaly reads the media I've spent 5 to 10min trying to get the thing to work.
As a matter of fact while writing this review I couldn't remember the exact message so, I've stopped the CD I was listening to, then hit the play button and got the error message again, (see above).
Ther have been times when I've stopped watching a movie, turned off the machine to come back later or the next day to be greeted by the disk error message, others when it starts where you left off, but mostly error.
The reason I purchased this disk changer was so that I could put in 5 disk's have a seat and enjoy the entertainment. Not possible. I have contacted customer service about this problem and they ask me to ship (at my cost) to a service center where it will be determined if there is a problem. I think this adds to my annoyance with the product.
One thing I will say, the picture quality of this thing is awesome, and the fiber optic sound is great.
The keys on the remote are tiny, and it is very difficult to manage or select a feature on the remote by touch alone.
Reaction time when RW/FF is slow, you end up going back and forthe before you get to "that" scene you wanted to see, but I've experienced slower performance with other machines.
The zoom feature is sub-par, nothing like the zooms of the Toshiba machines, it has a 2x & 4x zoom, I don't understand why at 2x you loose so much detail, almost like a 5-6th generation VHS copy (really bad) and the 4x is useless.
You can't FF/RW from the pause, that activates the slow feature but many models out there are similar.
This is my first Denon product, and I'm dissapointed especially since I know they could do better.
