Great Huge No-Frills Monitor

I replaced a 3-year old ViewSonic CRT with the Dell E228WFP 22" Flat Panel monitor when I replaced my old PC with a new Dell Vostro 410. It was a good deal because the monitor only cost an additional $150. when configuring the PC to the next level which included the Dell monitor for that additional price. The retail is approx. $249. on the Dell site.

This is a basic no frills design flat panel that offers good quality text and graphics on a very large rectangular screen. It has a boomerang shaped back and can be adjusted up and down but not side to side. A neat little feature is the hole in the rear arm that contains the power supply and computer wires so that they are not dangling from the back of the monitor.

The frame is black with five small button on the lower right....power on/off; menu; up & down arrows; and auto detect. The toolbar icons are clear & sharp. Colors are bright & sharp and photos appear very natural in skin tones. Setup was easy with no problems.

The display features 1680x1050 resolution which is higher than similarly priced monitors on the market, and it's wide viewing angle (160 degrees) is excellent. Accepts DVI input which provides better signal clarity and also VGA. With DVI you do not have access to some of the menu adjustments such as auto adjust, positioning, and image settings. Other menu items include brightness, color settings, OSD settings, language and factory reset which are available in the DVI input.

I recommend keeping the resolution at 1680x1050 for the best picture overall. The monitor has a 5ms response time which makes it suitable for fast games and movies. This is an excellent flat panel 22" monitor for the price and it provides adequate features and performance which matches many more expensive units. If you are able to take advantage of special price offerings at Dell or include this monitor when configuring a new Dell PC, it is even more of a bargain. There is a 3-year manufacturer's warranty from Dell.
