Sticky and sweet.

The Bottom Line: Thick and sweet, this is a drink to enjoy after dinner.
DeKuyper is trying to corner the market on sweet, thick varieties of Schnapps. There's no other way to explain that company's line of smooth cordials that don't pack much of a punch.
Butter Shots is another entry in the massive field of DeKuyper's schnapps variants. Like the other stuff from Schnapps, this cordial tastes a heck of a lot like one would expect.
By that, I mean that Butter Shots tastes like one of those butterscotch candies from Brach's. You know, those sugar-filled round ones that are buttery-smooth and taste good every now and again. Butter Shots shares about the same flavor, but has some alcohol in it.
Well, it sort of has alcohol in it. This drink is 30 proof, and that translates to 15% alcohol. That's not exactly a high level of the stuff. And, for those who want to get drunk, you'll have to drink a lot of this stuff to get the job done. You probably won't have the stomach for it.
That's because this stuff is very thick and sweet. When I say sweet, I mean that stomach-churning, tooth-pulling kind of sweetness that just turns nasty after a few shots of this stuff. When I say thick, I mean I'm sure someone has poured this stuff over ice cream in an attempt to create a perverse butterscotch sundae.
A couple of belts of this stuff is fine, but I'd advise drawing the line at three shots. Otherwise, you run the risk of a nasty, painful stomach ache -- not exactly the kind of condition you want to be in when you've been drinking unless you feel some sick need to "purge" your system (okay, that's about graphic enough, I think).
On the other hand, this is a mellow, smooth drink that goes well after dinner. It's rather like a liquid dessert, and can satisfy that need for a bit of sweetness after a full meal quite nicely.
As for food, I honestly can't think of a thing that would go well with this. It's just too thick and sweet to be taken with a meal. The same holds true for mixing this with anything. Why would you want to mix this stuff, anyway? It tastes fine on its own, and it doesn't have that taste that immediately lets one know there's liquor in this stuff. If you need to mix it to disguise this taste any further, I'd suggest drinking nothing harder than coffee.
But, this is a good, non-offensive little drink that's good from time to time. Pick up a bottle. You never know when you might crave some of this.
