Dansko Professional Clogs...comfy, durable, and appropriate almost anywhere

My motto is "life is too short for uncomfortable shoes".

And I have plantar fasciitis, so "sensible shoes" are a necessity.

For a long time I wore Birkenstocks. I liked them, they were comfortable, but I started to feel like they were maybe a little too.....hippie clown like, at least for work.

A coworker converted from Birkenstocks to Danskos, and raved about them. She was a total convert...they're the only shoes she'll wear. I thought they were a little more professional looking than the Birks, so I thought I'd bite the bullet and order a pair.

History of Dansko Clogs

Dansko was founded in Denmark in the late 1980s by Mandy Cabot and Peter Kjellerup. This husband and wife team, then professional horse trainers, flipped over their discovery of “the perfect barn shoe.” Mandy and Peter found these shoes to be extraordinarily comfortable, virtually indestructible, and attractive enough to wear almost anywhere. They were the only shoes they ever wore. Mandy and Peter secured the exclusive rights to the stapled clog product line from Denmark, and “Dansko, Inc.” was up and running in 1991, and within a few short years Dansko footwear was distributed in over 3500 retail locations—from tack shops to uniform shops, outdoor retailers to specialty boutiques.


Dansko now offers many different styles, all based on the foundation of the stapled clog. Features of the clog include:

Leather upper with padded instep collar.
Reinforced toe box.
Nonallergenic and Antimicrobial sockliner.
Polyurethane outsole.

They also carry the seal of acceptance from the American Podiatric Medical Association, and have been certified slip resistant.


Dansko clogs are sized using the European system.

Since a woman can't have too many pairs of black shoes, that's what I started with. I ordered online from the clogstore.com.

A few days later, I had my new shoes, and it was time to test them out. I found them IMMEDIATELY comfortable, if a bit "harder" than the birkenstocks I was used to.

There was really no break in period. Except during the summer, when I wear sandals, I wear my Danskos ALL the time. They go with everything from jeans to some skirt outfits. They are totally workplace appropriate, and if I was on my feet all the time, these shoes would be a godsend. I liked my first pair so well I bought another in brown. My purchase this fall will be a blue pair.

Since that first style of stapled clog, Dansko has come up with many more designs, from sandals to boots to dressier business shoes. They are available in lots of different colors and patterns.

So how do they help my achin' feet? They're great. I have some orthotics I use when the plantar fasciitis gets really bad, and those, coupled with my Danskos, will take care of the problem. If I have a lot of walking to do, I would rather do it wearing my Danskos than wearing my athletic shoes.
