Author's Review
A few months ago, I decided it was time for me to get a new waffle maker. The one that I owned was about 20 years old, and the waffles it made were a little on the small side. So, off to the store I went, to see what I could find.
After looking around a little bit, I decided on the Cuisinart WAF-4B Waffle Maker I decided on this model because it had some features that I liked. I paid $69.99 at a local retailer which I thought was a little high, for a waffle maker
I liked it because it has a non-stick cooking surface, is stainless steel, it allows you to set the desired darkness of the waffles, and the size was larger than my old waffle maker. It even looks pretty nice sitting on the counter top if you decide to leave it out.
The size of this Cuisinart Waffle Maker is 12"x 12" and is about 5" tall. The inside cooking area is about 9" x 9", and makes 4 waffle squares that are 4 1/2" square. The cord is about 38" in length which should be enough to reach a nearby outlet. The cord is also easily wrapped up on the bottom of the waffle iron for storage.
When you plug it in, and turn it on, it has a red light on it that shows you when it is heating up. After it has heated up to temperature, a green light comes on, and the unit beeps as well to notify you that it is ready to use. After you open it up, and pour in your waffle mix, the green light will go off until your waffle is cooked to the desired level. The unit will also beep again to let you know when it is done. There is a dial on the front that allows you to set it to your desired cooking level. The dial has 6 settings numbered 1-6, with 1 for a lighter waffle, and 6 for the darkest setting. I usually set it at 5 so my waffles are a little on the dark side, and it takes about 3 minutes or so to cook on this setting. So far the waffles I have made have turned out pretty good, although I personally wish they would be a little crispier. They have always been cooked fully, without any areas that weren't as cooked as the others.
I have noticed that the outside of the unit gets pretty warm. I recommend only touching it on the top handle that stays cool during use. Another thing I have noticed is that the non-stick coating isn't really all that non-stick. At times I have had to use a knife or fork to help coax the waffles out of it.
The lid has a on this model locks in place when you close it while cooking. I guess this is to help keep the batter inside, in case you happen to overfill it.
Cleaning this can kind of be a pain if you wish to "really" clean it, rather than just wipe it off. I wish they could have somehow made this with removable cooking surfaces that would be much easier to wash.
This model comes with a 3 year warranty limited warranty, and is U L listed.
As I stated above, this Cuisinart Waffle Maker has worked fairly well for me, and I really do like the fact that you can adjust the cooking time settings.
