Author's Review
I received my Cuisinart food processor as a college graduation present back in 1982. Since then, I've used several times a week, if not daily. It has never given me any problems, other than when I get distracted and over-process my dish of the moment.
At first, I was fascinated by how easy it was to make bread crumbs from stale bread. 10 quarts of bread crumbs later, I branched out to pie crust, chopped and sliced vegies, various breads, etc. Now, I've added a Kitchen Aid stand mixer and bread machine to my kitchen. I don't use my Cuisinart as much as I did before, but still find it incredibly useful for chopping, slicing, and dicing.
As an example, I planned burritos for dinner one night last week. My son assembled the tortillas, beans, rice, and meats, while I chopped lettuce and onions, sliced tomatoes, and grated cheese. I was done before he had the last burrito in the pan.
It is not for all tasks. I tried making mashed potatoes one day and ended up with a gluey mess. It works very fast, so paying attention to the texture and appearance of your food is essential.
The processor is a bit of a pain to clean (bowl, chopping blade or slicing disk, and cover) so if I need to chop one onion, I grab a knife. For elaborate dinners and a number of vegetables, the Cuisinart makes my life much easier.
I'm still using my original bowl and cover (even though it's a bit melted from a close brush with a hot stove burner). After 17 years, I have no complaints about durability.
