Author's Review
Introduction
Crash Nitro Kart is what I would class as simply just another storyline-It doesn't have many improvements over crash team racing, which, may I add,is,and always will be,the game I use to pass time on Sundays-I brought Nitro Kart hoping for a large improvement over Team racing, something to replace my addiction. But alas, this game has already found its way to my shelf.
Don't get me wrong-It is a good game.A triumph to be marvelled at even. But it would have been simply better off as an expansion pack, rather than an entirely different game.
Graphics
Its graphics are great though, and certainly unique-I love crash's 3D rendering, the cartoony way the characters are portrayed gives them so much depth and personality.Dr. Neo Cortex is a good example of how effective the graphics are-From the start, without him saying anything,It is obvious he is some sort of mad scientist, and his large forehead also gives you the assumption that he is intelligent.(Intelligent?Only an idiot would let a perfect creation like Crash get away!)
Sounds
The sounds are somewhat amusing, especially when a character either bumps into something or pass another person on the course-Their comments are very witty, though do get repetitive after a while. The background music is very catchy, and I often find myself humming some Nitro cart tunes at off moments-But the final fantasy theme tune is still my shower song. The cinematics have good voice syncronisation.
Controls/Gameplay
The controls are variable.Personally, I prefer to set the ignition to R or L 1.The default controls however are like most racing games-X is ignition,of course, and fire is O.The optional controls, such as hop,are set to the back Ls and Rs.
Courses
The courses are quite good, some even containing alternative and secret routes. There are a good mixture of course lengths and types, but I would have liked to have seen different weather conditions perhaps-Fixed conditions don't really count for the wintry courses.
Game Difficulty
What really made me if and ar over this game is the difficulty, even on easy mode. The relic races, where you have to complete the course in a certain time limit, are near impossible,as are the CNK challenges, where you have to grab the letters C,N,and K,and still aquire first place on the podium.
final recommendation
Overall,A pretty good buy-You can expect to play long hours on it-Of course, that time will be spent on the relic races-over and over again!
