Product Review

Relatively new, relatively great teen magazine

by   Emnemms ,   Jun 22, 2000

Pros:  Unique sections such as: free stickers, *lots* of beauty tips, and even a Cosmo Girl comic.

Cons:  Not a lot, sometimes they could cool down on the boyband stuff.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars
Trendiness: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

"It's really awesome, get it. I just got a subscription to it.", said my friend about Cosmo Girl when we were wandering through the magazine rack of a News Stand not really intending on buying anything. I guess what I noticed about it was the free stickers they offered. I thought that maybe it was just some incentive to get us to buy this particular issue. "No, they have them in every issue. Last issue they had ones on Freddie Prinze Jr.", my friend argued on Cosmo Girl's side once again. Wait, did she say Freddie Prinze Jr.? "That'll be $2.99,Esaid the girl at the cash register.

I think I have some type of magazine fetish, cause I would take a guestimate to say I have about 4 billion of them. Believe me when I say I know a lot about teen magazines. And the one thing I hate is seeing one magazine being the carbon copy of the other. It seems like some magazines even have the same cover girl for the same issues!

Another thing that can tick me off about some teen magazines is that some don't realize that for some teens this may be the only source of real information that they take seriously. Some teens don't read, or even glance through the paper, or watch the news. So when they hear about current events in teen magazines, these magazines need to be sure they have their facts straight. Plus, some mags need to tone down on the "Tips to Look Thin". But Cosmo Girl doesn't need to do that.

Cosmo Girl has your regular columns: Contests, Embarrassing Moments, Letters to the Magazine, and Fashion Tips. But it also has other sections, the free stickers (like I mentioned earlier), and even it's own comic strip about the life of a girl named CG (CG, get it? Cosmo Girl...? ooooh right!). Here are the sections of Cosmo Girl in every issue on the Contents page:
~Cover Stories
~All About Guys
~Fashion Diva
~Beauty Patrol
~Health Kick
~Inside Scoop
~Inner Girl
~Features
~Our Usuals

So, there you go. And now I hope you're thinking "Hey, why not?" I mean, it's $2.99, and it's summer, and magazines are a great way to pass the time.
