"City Hall" fails to win votes

This movie about corruption in city government gets off to a really strong start but then drifts off into something that wouldn't even make the movie of the week. As a huge fan of Pacino, I was really disappointed with his lackluster performance in this film. He plays the Mayor of New York City, who is caught in the fallout after a shooting in which a police officer and young child are killed. John Cusack isnt convincing as the deputy mayor who uncovers a connection between the killing and a local politician, played by Danny Aiello. Bridget Fondas role as the lawyer for the family of the slain officer is a waste. The movie becomes really unbelievable when Cusack and Fonda hook up to uncover the truth behind the corruption. If you can buy the idea of the deputy mayor of NYC playing detective and chasing mobsters around the docks at night, then you might enjoy this movie. The ending is even more unconvincing as they to force a morality lesson on us.
