Citizen Ruth

Ruth Stoops (Laura Dern) made me sick ... and illustrated a good point about society. We say we care, but it isn't really about others. Its about abstract concepts and far away ideas. In our attempt to win the big war we forget to see the soldiers and their problems and feelings. The thing is, in Ruth, we want to forget about the little people, because Ruth (Dern), the little person, in this satirical film about the absurdities surrounding the abortion debate, is so despicable.

Citizen Ruth is a funny, different, look at some very non-typical Hollywood issues: abortion and huffing (the act of inhaling fumes of paints, glues, etc, in order to get high). This was a refreshing change of pace from the typical drug scenes and watered down topics I am used to seeing.

Alexander Payne, the writer of Citizen Ruth, has another movie coming soon, Election that I will be sure to see as soon as it comes out. I would recommend Citizen Ruth, and many of you will probably find it even better than I did. Perhaps I will too, when I see it again.
