The Bottom Line: I'm giving this books 3 stars, but it's probably closer to two and a half. I recommend it, but be warned that it's a thick read!

The Bottom Line: As grim as Southern Gothic gets. Absurd in its absolutely dire depiction of an already lowly soul reduced to the depths of crime and degradation.

A complete, utter failure

The Bottom Line: No matter what I do, I cannot square this terrible novel with the rest of McCarthy's utterly brilliant style.  I cannot express just how much you should avoid it.
Review: Two things first. Cormac McCarthy is an author whose focus is on the artistry of language and narrative. The audience must conform to his style rather than him fitting his talents in the opposite direction—and he has the bona fides to justify this...
