Great Product and Functionality For Minimal Price
Date of Review: Apr 9, 2009
The Bottom Line: Will be great solution for most users and the price is definitely right.
I recently took advantage of the recession sales to upgrade from my 90s era HP inkjet to the Canon MX310 All-In-One.
A friend had mentioned that she only paid around $20 a pop for her all-in-one's ink cartridge's while I was paying between $45 and $60 retail for cartridges or struggling through messy syringe cartridge refills. And all that for an extremely slow printer that often jammed.
When I did my research and looked around, initially I wanted to get another HP. I hadn't realized that I'd had that kind of brand loyalty until I started looking for the new printer. But when I considered the online reviews, what was available in my area at a discount and would give me the largest number of features, the Canon MX310 rose to the top.
What I like most about this printer is that it was easy to set up and it's just as easy to use.
Even something like printing an envelope or cardstock, which would have thrown my old printer is a smooth, quick task with this printer.
I love the fax utility, in particular, being able to send faxes directly from my word processing application.
The scan utility works just as smoothly and is quick. The only drawback for me is that the scanner/copier is a standard paper size (no legal flatbed scans/copies here) - though my guess is that legal sized documents that can be sent through the top loader may be able to be scanned. Have not tried this yet.
I seldom print at high quality (in order to save ink) so I can't speak to whether this printer is an ink hog or not. I've had the printer now for less than a month with no problems and hope it stays problem-free.
