Canon BJC 80
Date of Review: Aug 5, 2000
I was looking for a portable printer, definitely color when I stumbled upon this cuteypie. After researching through the 'net, I finally discovered it could scan too and I was hooked. Then and there, I made a promise to look farther - which I did, in a local store.
At the time, I was basically living out of my car, needed something small, portable, and reliable. My overall impression of Canon products in general was that they were very good on image production, which pleased my photography background to no end.
As a portable product I would recommend it as a main printer and a backup printer - both for electrically connected areas and those areas of the world with fewer utility sources. It's available with a battery option that's rechargeable.
As the only product then at the time with all these options available, it made the choice very obvious. The other portable equipment was either too expensive, wrong items for the time period and usual results for my usage area (most of the others specialized in black and white, did not come with a scan option, though some did have the battery pack available) and was reasonably priced.
I was impressed to find out the number of different types of materials available to be printed on and checked further.
I would like to try the battery pack out at a later date, however, the printer and scanner work perfectly together.
There is a third party unit available for use with Apple Mac computers for software print drivers and connecting cord through the USB. This was the only drawback I located - I was unaware of the need for it and was not sold until I located the correct items for my chosen computer type.
