Author's Review
This is a shooter game for shooters, it's not the crossover game that will bring over Wii players or the "World of Warcraft" crowd.
I was so excited about this game I'm tempted to give it 10 out of 10, but almost every time I've done this a couple of years later I find something so much better I stop revisiting the game. To get a ten out of ten with me the game not only has to change my opinion of video games and set the standard of what all video games should be(this does), it should call back to me at least once a year. "Halo" does this, even though there's so much better graphics and user interfaces out there, the quality of the game and story stand strong even today. "Call of Duty 4" isn't as strong a quality as "Halo", it's more of a game than a fantasy of being the Master Chief, but it's very close, beating it on all respects except story. It's a good story. but it's not as immersive as Halo.
My experience comes through a PS3 on a Mitsubishi 1080P 65 inch tv, I'm a very lucky 41 year old little boy. I buy a new video game every month, my favorites are first person shooters like "Halo", "Grand Theft Auto" and "God of War", and now "Call of Duty 4".
The graphics and interface are the very best. The actors were terrific and believable, love that they put so many british people in the game and the global environments were realistic. The storyline was a little short, it left me wanting more. However, and ready for this, I cried at the ending. What video game does that?
I felt a new understanding of warfare at the end. What a terrible thing it is, thank goodness we have soldiers to do this.
As an aside, this is the high quality game "Black" was aspiring to.
My reflexes are very poor, I have good coordination but my reactions are slow and under pressure my aim fails so the multiplayer portion is useless for me. Except as folly for much better players, even on the lowest skill setting. So for me there was too much put into this part and not enough in the story line, but isn't that successful for Activision, I'm gonna have to buy the next one, aren't I?
Note to Mom, the Mature rating is for the awfulness of war and occasional language. I've heard worse language coaching elementary school kickball. If your home is a temple, this game's chaos and energy doesn't belong in there.
