Fast, but a few glaring problems

I received my first Bunn coffee maker as a gift in 1990, and since then I've gone through three. Bunn makes a good pot of coffee fast, and consistently good every time. However, because it is so fast, it requires more grounds, so you use a lot more coffee. My biggest peeve is that all of them sprang leaks after about 3 years, in spite of cleaning according to manufacturer recommendations. First I thought it might just be my water, but others I've talked to experienced the same problem, with Bunns and other brands of coffee makers that use the same technique. We all concluded that this is likely because there's always hot water sitting in the tank. This could be a useful feature, particularly if you use the pot to heat water for other uses besides coffee, but is a constantly full tank of hot water sitting on your countertop really a good idea? Because the pot constantly houses hot water, 24/7, it needs constant power. And if you don't remember to turn off/unplug before leaving on vacation, you could return to a nasty surprise.

Bottom line: Bunn makes good, fast coffee, but the pots are really too expensive to replace every three years.

I've replaced the last one with a $20 conventional drip coffee maker with a timer. It might take six minutes to brew, but it uses less grounds (two scoops instead of 3), and my coffee is ready when I get up in the morning. After four years it still works great.
