Kenai And Koda Are Back!

Kenai and Koda are back in the sequel to Disney's Brother Bear.

This time Kenai's old friend Nita is about to be married to another man but when their marriage is broken up by the great spirits, Nita finds out a strong bond between her and Kenai still exists so she can't be married to someone else until those bonds are broken apart. She talks to the tribe's Shaman and she tells her the only way to break the bonds is to find Kenai and the two of them must go on a quest to destroy their scared bonds. When Nita asks how will she find Kenai in a forest full of bears, she is given the ability to talk to animals and she sets off to find Kenai and his adopted little brother Koda in the woods playing. She tells Kenai her story and Kenai agrees to help her. They set off on the search for a way to destroy their sacred bond and Koda joins them.

Okay, so the plot isn't one that is really all that good, but the movie itself is awesome. Kenai's voice talent is changed in this movie from Jaoquin Phoenix to Patrick Dempsey. Now the change isn't exaclty a bed thing as Dempsey does a good job filling the shoes of Kenai (or rather the paws...). Jeremy Suarez once again plays Koda and he is still the same as he was on the first movie. He's talented and really captures the essence of a playful bear cub and I think his role is one that really makes the movie interesting as he starts to feel alienated when Kenai starts to fall for Rita. Speaking of Rita, her voice is played by Mandy Moore and she is incredible. I mean, her acting, although it's only a voice reading, is simply wonderful. She is the highlight of this movie and I think if anyone else played her role it wouldn't have been so good. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas once again join in as Rutt and Tuke and they bring the comedy element the movie needed to make it fun. Wanda Sykes joins in on this movie as Innoko, the Shaman who tells Rita where to go in the beginning. I love how she also adds comedy and I think she is simply funny all around.

This movie picks up right where the first one left off and I think it is a great addition to the Brother Bear series. I love Kenai and Rita's relationship on this movie and I think the way the fall for one another is something that made the movie more enjoyable because they usually can't stand one another. I love this movie and I am glad I have it in my DVD collection.
