Author's Review
Purchased at a Williams-Sonoma store. We were impressed with the weight of the thing, the finish of the stainless steel body, and the 1500w heat element. Features are 350-450 degree thermostat, 15 min. timer, handle lock so the grill can be stored on end to save counter space, adjustable tilt on it so when you open it up, it lays completely flat, or can be tilted so the grease runs off into a teflon grease cup. The grill has a flat teflon coated bottom and a raised teflon coated grill in the lid.
Now, down to the cooking part. It takes a little longer to bring up to cooking temperature, but I believe it's because the grill plates are so heavy, not due to being underpowered. Once heated, it keeps the heat very well. Having had this grill only a couple of days, we haven't really had time to cook a lot of things, but we have cooked bacon (excellent job and fast) grilled cheese sandwiches (great crust, took about 4-5 mins total cooking time)
We also have done a real panini style sandwich with excellent results. Clean up is very easy, often using just a couple of paper towels for clean up. Grease catcher works as designed and is rather large so it won't easily overflow. We made room on a countertop so it would be easily accessible; if stored, I don't think we would be using it as often.
We paid 179$ for this grill at Williams-Sonoma, but have seen it since online for about 10-15$ cheaper.
I will update this review after a month, but right now, it is an excellent kitchen appliance.
2/1/06((((+++++ Here's an update on this grille.
After over 6 weeks of fairly steady use, I am more sold on this grille than ever. This has become our tool of choice for steaks. We haven't fired up our outside grill since this purchase. This grill outdoes itself on steaks, immediately searing the meat, since it goes to 450 degrees. Takes about 7 minutes to med/rare, juicy, and cooked perfect. I won't take time to list everything we've used this thing for, but it's usually used everyday, at some point either for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I've done a complete breakfast on this grill, pancakes, hashbrowns and scrambled eggs and toast, never using our cooktop.
All in all, a good investment.
