Fred Durst Ruined Staind
Date of Review: Aug 15, 2001
The Bottom Line: If you like Staind because of the hardness and edgyness of the first two albums (Tormented and Dysfunction), you will hate this album with its soft songs and corny lyrics.
I first heard of Staind through one of my friends who had heard them in a local club, he had bought thier CD and had loaned it too me. I was instantly mezmorized by the contracting sound of the music and Aaron's voice. I loved the sharp sounding music that flowed from the speakers. That was from there first, but little know independent CD, "Tormented". When Staind finally got thier big break I was extremely happy for them, and when there CD came out I purchased it on the first day. The album was great, there sound had changed alittle but that can be expected when a bad goes from and independent CD to a big time studio. The CD was just what I wanted and it made Staind one of my favorite bands at the time. Then this year there much anticipated CD came out, though my muscially tastes had begun to stray away from metal I still loved to listen to Staind and like wise could not wait for this ablum to be released. The first time I heard their first single, "It's been awhile" on the radio I knew what had happened, Fred Durst like he had done to his own banded had ruined Staind. I still bought the album and was greatly disapointed, the lyrics are corny and there is but one song that can be considered hard on the entire album. Am I saying that the songs arn't good? No the songs are okay, but no the kind of songs that I want to hear from a so called Heavy Metal band like Staind. If you liked the Dysfunction, because of the edgyness and hardness to it then chances are that you will not like this album. I can not say that I would not recommend this album but not to a Staind fan of the previous albums, I would recommend this album to my girlfriend or my sister.
