Bosch Evolution™ 800 ...Taking Clean To The Next Level!

Someone’s always trying to build a better mouse trap. Let’s face it; out of the box thinking is the fabric of innovation that we all thrive on. Bosch represents a number of companies that think out of the box, bringing new and exciting products to the marketplace. Such is the case with their Evolution™ 800 SHE98M05UC Stainless Steel Dishwasher.

We have had a number of experiences with Bosch before having placed their washers and dryers in a number of properties I have sold over the years, all incidentally, with no incident. On a current project, when it came time to pick out appliances, I knew immediately that Bosch would be my first choice for washer, dryer and dishwasher.

I have a few pet peeves with dishwashers. Dishwashers tend to be noisy. How many times have you tried to hold a conversation in your kitchen only to be distracted by the annoying din of the dishwasher? Imagine an absolutely quiet dishwasher where you would have to try and hear it working, that’s what you get with Bosch. You don’t even hear the gurgling of water in the waste pipe because the Bosch uses so much less water and triple insulation of the tub makes it dead quiet! That’s what you get with Bosch. Imagine rinse cycles where food particulate or soap completely disappears and is not evident on your clean because the dishwashers rinse cycle and twin spray arms thoroughly rinse your dishes and the stainless steel hygienic tub; that’s what you get with Bosch. A four part basket and retainer filter system on the cavity floor is extraordinarily effective in trapping stray food particles not allowing them to re-enter the wash process.

One of the great things about the Bosch Evolution™ 800 SHE98M05UC Stainless Steel Dishwasher is the absolute attention to detail that they apparently value in their products.

At wash temperatures ranging between 113ºf to 162ºF you can be assured the Evolution™ 800 can easily adapt to your dishwashing. The high temperatures are vital to proper sanitizing your plates, pots and utensils. Nine wash cycles make it difficult for any of your expectations to be compromised:

• Auto Wash Plus - cleans baked on or dried foods
• Auto Wash – Regular wash, loose foods on dishes
• Auto Delicate Wash – delicate silverware or some china
• Quick Wash – Great for re-using dishware at an event
• Rinse and Hold – Loosens food on plates until you have a full load
• Regular – Normal cycle
• Enviro care – Reduces water and energy usage
• Glass Care – reduces temperatures for glassware
• Extreme Wash – heavily soiled dishes with hard sticky particulate

Among some of the other features you can select are:

• Delay Start: Great for having the wash process start after you have left the house, though with as quiet as the Bosch is, who cares?
• Sanitized sanitizes your dishes according to the standards set by the National Sanitation Foundation. The Evolution™ 800 is NSF certified
• Extra Drying Allows adjusting dry times and temperatures
• Signal Adjust signal tone, duration or shut off
• Rinse Aid Alerts you to rinse agent levels

The front mounted led window allows for easy navigation through options and cycles and is easily read.

Once underway you notice the Evolution™ 800 is awash in water if you open the door ,though the most water used will be in the Extreme Wash cycle for a total of 7.6 gallons for the duration of 120 minutes. Granted that may seem like a lot of time but I would prefer the time be taken to assure the dishes clean as well as possible.

Another noticeable difference on the Evolution™ 800 is the lack of a heating element. The tub’s flow through heating system heats up water and retains that heat for the wash rinse and drying process, saving energy, and avoiding the possibility of inadvertently melting or burning your kitchen ware. The absence of an in tub heating element obviously gives you a little more real estate for dishes, which is a plus.

Space isn’t an issue with the Bosch Evolution™ 800. The nylon racks are a great alternative to the rubber coated wire racks that invariably chip and wear your dishes. The lower rack is height adjustable to allow for taller item placement on the upper rack. There is even a spray head that you can add for tall items when you remove the top rack and spray arm when you need to wash large serving trays, or commercial cookie pans. You can comfortably place pots, pans and baking dishes in the bottom rack and will be amazed at the ease with which the toughest mac & cheese or scalloped potato dishes clean. There are accommodations for knives and folding racks provide additional versatility. The Bosch Evolution Sensotronic system can sense when you need an additional water fill for extra heavy or dirty loads.


Drying the dishes is done with condensed heat and can take a little while longer but your dishes come out squeaky clean! The use of a rinsing agent is always recommended but Bosch’s proprietary Opti Dry technology senses when you are low on rinsing agent and compensates for optimal drying performance.

In the many years I have been using Bosch appliances on our properties, I have had to call for only one service call for a board replacement on a washer that fell under the warranty. The Bosch Evolution™ 800 is warranted for 1 year for defects or workmanship, 2 year component warranty, 5 year warranty on electronics and dish racks and lifetime against stainless steel rust through.

In closing I have to heartily endorse the Bosch Evolution™ 800 SHE98M05UC Stainless Steel Dishwasher. It really does meet and exceed ones expectations on many fronts. Reliability has never been an issue and effectiveness is second to none. I particularly appreciate the miserly use of water and ingenious manipulation of heat. I would walk, no, run to replace it if it were stolen. A better mousetrap, yeh!
