ANOTHER NAME FOR WATER!!

This is the first book that I have read by CLIVE CUSSLER. My husband went into the hospital and someone gave him this book to read so I started reading it myself.

BLUE GOLD is part of the KURT AUSTIN adventure series. Kurt is a marine biologist with the National Underwater & Marine Agency (NUMA). KURT and his co-hort JOE ZAVALA, get into all kinds of adventures while doing their job for NUMA.

In this story, BLUE GOLD, a Scandinavian giantess, BRYNHILD SIGURD, who has amassed a corporate empire, seeks to control the distribution of fresh water in the world. She has already accumulated control from the United States Government of the Colorado River and from several other countries around the world. Along with the brothers KRADZIK, two evil twin brothers from Bosnia, who delight in torture, murder and rape, they eliminate anyone and anything who stand in the way.

Ten years previous, DR. FRANCESCA CABRAL, a HYDRO-ENGINEER, is hi-jacked on her way to a NATO meeting. She is on her way to give her latest discovery, a method to desalinate water, to the world. In the process of trying to thwart the hi-jacking her plane crashes in the jungles of South American. FRANCESCA alone survives the crash. She is found by a mysterious tribe of Indians and they consider her to be a GODDESS from the sky. She lives among them until the adventures of two NUMA scientists in South American happen upon her, and the three of them are rescued by KURT and ZAVALA after quite a hair-raising experience.

This adventure also leads KURT and ZAVALA into Mexico to investigate the deaths of a pod of whales off the coast of San Diego. In trying to find out why the whales died, they come across a mysterious finding at a tortilla factory.

Those of you who have read any of my reviews and opinions know that I do not like to give out all the details of a book or movie. In this book, it is very interesting how the plane crash, the death of the whales, and the two scientists all come together to make a delightful plot that will keep you very interested. This 378 page book brings you to the shores of Lake Tahoe, where BRYNHILD's corporate offices serve as another attempt to desalinate water as well as the desolate tundra in Alaska, where it is thought that the United States Government is hiding a cover-up.

Although I haven’t read any of CLIVE CUSSLER’s books in the past, I definitely plan to read more of them. I’m sure anyone who loves adventures will enjoy this book immensely.

MAIN CHARACTERS

KURT AUSTIN: A Marine Biologist, employed by NUMA, also a super-sleuth. While working for NUMA in the underwater worlds, he always gets involved in mysterious plots, and comes out the hero.

JOE ZAVALA; Kurt Austin's side-kick. He is well learned in piloting boats, planes and race cars. His mysterious past gives him an edge in the adventures he encounters while working with Kurt.

DR. FRANCESCA CABRAL; a hydro-engineer who has discovered a way to desalinate salt water. After surviving a plane crash in the jungles of South America, she teaches the band of natives who rescued her many technological ways of life.

GAMAY AND PAUL TROUT: She is a scientist working in the jungles of South America studying river dolphins. Along with her husband, they try to escape the Chula Indians attack and end up finding Francesca.

BRYNHILD SEGURD: A seven foot Scandanavian giantess, also a hydro-engineer. She forms a massive corporation, GOGSTAD, and along with other money greedy directors, seek to control the flow of fresh water in the world, thru privatization and intimidation. She has in her employ, two mad twin brothers from Bosnia, who were involved in rape, torture and murder during the ethic-cleansing in their country.
