Can't beat the Black and Decker Waffle Iron

I own the Black and Decker Waffle Iron and Grill and wouldn't have any other model!! I tried many others before keeping this one, and only one other iron was as good, but it was over twice the price, so the B&D model won. It has a light that comes on when the iron is up to temp, it goes off when you add the batter, and comes back on when the waffle is ready. It makes 4 crisp waffle squares and they never stick. I seasoned it when I first used it and have never done anything else to it since I've owned it but wipe it with a damp cloth when it cools off. I now make GlutenFree waffles with it and they're great too! I took my regular waffle recipe and substituted Gluten free flour and they are crispy and delicious. My friends that have eaten them prefer them to the ones made with wheat. The recipe calls for separating the eggs and beating the whites until stiff, then folding them into the batter at the end. The only thing I've found to be any type of problem with this iron is that sometimes after the first waffle, the subsequent waffles don't get as brown and crisp. I remedy this by not putting the second waffle in the iron right after I take out the first waffle. After I take out a waffle, I close the lid and let the iron heat for a minute before I put the next one in. This lets the iron recover some heat before the next waffle goes in. This seems to take care of the problem-the iron is hot and makes a nice, crisp crust on the waffle. If I have more than we can eat, I place the cooked waffles on a cooling rack and when they are fully cooled, put them into a plastic bag and freeze them. Then I put them into the toaster for a quick breakfast. It's easy to have home made waffles in a snap. They turn out so well that I usually make more batter than I will use so that I have left overs. I made waffles at a friend's house this morning and all he had was a belgian waffle iron. After eating them, he said he likes them better made in my regular B&D waffle iron. I agree! So we're going to get him one too! Don't mess with something that works as well as the Black and Decker Waffle Iron and Grill.
