Author's Review
My recent review was on the Hamilton Beach Prep Star food processor. I recently returned the machine to Target, and bought the Black and Decker 1510 food processor.
Specifics:
-10 cup anodized plastic bowl
-Cover with food pusher and food chute
-Press button On, Off and Pulse settings
-Continuous "Power" light; Lets user know machine is plugged in
-Cord wrap on bottom of machine
-Standard "S" chopping and mixing blade
-Standard reversible slicing and shredding disk
-Disk stem
All of these pieces are hand washable, or top rack dishwasher safe.
How it works:
I titled my piece "Cuisinart, watch your behind" because I am replacing my Cuisinart with this machine. About two weeks ago, my Cuisinart started leaking fluid from the bowl. I called and wanted to replace the bowl, but for that much money I could buy another machine! I had some specifics that I knew I wanted. The 10 cup bowl really played a part in my purchase. I love to make recipes for large groups, and using the Prep Star (with a 6 cup bowl) was simply insufficient. I also needed to have a stand up machine. Most low cost machines are driven by a belt system, where the motor sits on one side and the bowl is horizontally on the other. These are cheaply made and rather disposable. They also take up lots of counter space! So an upright model was a must have.
The Black and Decker FP1510 really works! I know that people always say that things work, but honestly. This machine works just as well as my Cuisinart DFP-11. I've made (so far) chocolate cheesecake, cole slaw, apple sauce, and a hollandaise sauce for fresh asparagus. It can't be beat! When I mixed my cheesecake batter, I thought "Great. I'm going to bog down a brand new machine and I'll tear it up". It cut through ICE cold cream cheese like melted butter!
One thing I know is not possible to make, with a relatively low cost food processor, is bread dough. I loved making fresh bread with my Cuisinart, but its actually not that hard to get along without. I use my Kitchen aid Artisan for bread, so that is taken care of. The FP1510 will make pie crust, but bread dough is just too stiff for this machine.
I'm not critical or even abusive to my kitchen appliances. However, when I use my food processor, I need something that will be able to stand a good amount of work. I believe, and I truly do, that my FP1510 will be my new best friend in the kitchen.
