Bissell Steam Mop 1867 Series
Date of Review: Feb 15, 2009
The Bottom Line: I definitely recommend this product for ease of use and excellent results
This is my first experience with using a steam mop. I think because I've had my doubts on how well they clean. Or simply the ones I've seen in the stores looked too cumbersome to use, and I don't like anything that involves too much time in setting it up.
I spotted the Bissell Steam Mop at Kohl's (my favorite store.) I took a chance and figure I get this considering the cost was way below what I expected to pay for a steam mop.
The first time I used the Bissell Steam Mop was on the kitchen floor. I don't have a large kitchen, actually it's quite small. But when I saw that it did a great job on the floor, I immediately moved to the bathroom floors which are also tiled. Again, I was more than satisfied with the results. I liked the fact that the Bissell Steam Mop sanitizes as well.
Now I have this large family room that is also completely tiled. And I've been clearing the room out of furniture and such so that I could get to the floor. It's difficult to clean a floor like that with too much stuff around. I decided to put the Bissell Steam Mop to the test. I filled up the receptacle or water tank with water. I put on the mop pad which with the third use was a bit tricky at first, but not really difficult.
I plugged in the unit, push the trigger for the steam. I have to say the mop cleaned the tile and the grout between the tiles fast and easy.
To put on the mop pad you set these swivel head into the mop pad, making sure the toggle is located on the back...and simply pull on the elastic cord while pressing on the toggle, which should prevent it from slipping off the swivel head.
To fill the tank all you do is lift straight up and away from the unit. Unscrew the cap at the bottom of the water tank and remove the insert assembly. Then replace the insert and cap and tighten.
Replacing the water tank is easy to do as it gently glides into place.
The ready light illuminates when the Steam Mop is ready for use.
I of course swept the floor well before I used this mop. I found that I could actually washed this floor in no time. In the past I would have to lug a large pail of water out into this room, then take either a sponge mop or one those other kind of mops that you wring the water out. I never felt I could truly get the floor totally clean because I felt this method left residue from some of the washing agent on to the floor. Plus it was so tiring and time consuming I found I wouldn't clean the floor out there as often.
But now using the Bissell Steam Mop I simply have no reservations about going out there even several times a week to go over the floor. This small steam mop really does a very good job.
When you purchase the mop in the package you get:
Handle Assembly
Lower Body with Filter
Swivel Head
Water Tank
1 large Philips Head Screw
1 small Philips Head Screw
2 Mop pads
(So all you need is a Philips Screwdriver to assemble. I think it took less than a minute and I was ready.)
I also like the fact this unit is not bulky and I can put it away without taking up much space. In fact I keep it tucked behind one door in one of the bathroom -- at the ready so to speak.
I also like the fact that by cleaning with this mop I don't use any chemicals and that the cleaning is done by the steam which sanitizes the floors as well. A great feature at this time of year (mid February ) when the flu season can be at its peak. You just never know what you're going to tramp into your house.
I have not tried this on my wood floors. Instead I bought another special mop for that which I will put up a review on in the near future.
There is a one-year warranty on the Bissell Steam Mop.
