Inspiring Array of Dylan's Best Works
Date of Review: Dec 13, 1999
My sister got this box set for Christmas one year and I was extremely jealous of her. Here's why: In this box, there are three special CDs, each with at least 17 songs, with carefully selected Dylan Greats on them.
Dylan's best songs are on these three CDs. It's really a chronologue of Dylan's developing music styles over the course of his career. Some examples of his love songs are Lay Lady Lay, If Not for You, Visions of Johanna, To Ramona, and Isis. These songs consist of his sweeping style of loving the women through his songs, and it also consists of upbeat and happy songs about fun love.
Also on these discs are some of his more heartfelt songs which people call "protest songs" but Bob insists they're just how he feels about things. Such songs are Masters of War, Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, and Blowin in the Wind. Featured here are also some really good classics like Quinn the Eskimo, Knockin on Heaven's Door, and Percy's Song. These will no doubt bring back fond memories and also give you something awesome to have stuck in your head for a while.
This wonderful box is overflowing with Dylan. In addition to songs that you know, there are some unreleased ones and singles. There're also live songs. There's an live, unreleased version of It's All Over Now Baby Blue. What a special treat! If you love Bob Dylan like you know you should, I recommend you get this for yourself, or perhaps for someone close to you. Get this as a wonderful Christmas gift or any Holiday gift for someone you love and who is way into Bob Dylan. There's his best stuff on here. I'm sure any Dylan fan would be more than delighted to receive such a personal and meaningful gift.
