A good, cheap sub amp
Date of Review: Dec 21, 2002
The Bottom Line: There's nothing special about it, but it works nicely and is a very good deal for the price.
I picked this amp up because return buy (www.returnbuy.com) had a sale on them for $55 with free shipping. It was an open-item that had never been used and was in perfect condition except for one tiny scratch when I recieved it. They have since gone up to around $80, but this is still a really good deal for what you get, it's probably that cheapest subwoofer amplifier you can buy that will actually work like it's supposed to.
I wasn't expecting much from this amp, but I was pleasantly surprised once I got it hooked up. For what I paid, I would have been content as long as it powered up and put out sound, but it worked much nicer than that. I have no way of testing the actual output of the amp, but from how it sounds, I think it's actual output is pretty close to the rated output from the factory.
The rated output on this amp is:
350 watts RMS @ 4 ohms
500 watts RMS @ 2 ohms
I'm running it at 4 ohms right now so I haven't gotten a chance to test how it runs at 2 ohms, but the manual says it is 2 ohm stable and I have heard that it functions fine down to 2 ohms.
This amp features RCA inputs and outputs, a low pass crossover adjustable from 40-130hz, a level (gain) adjuster and an adjustable bass boost from 0-12db/octave. It also has a out put for a remote bass adjustment knob that allows you to adjust the bass boost from inside the car. This has to be purchased seperately for around $20 though. Bazooka also sells different colored "amp bikinis" that can be screwed down to the amp in place of the black plastic piece that comes on the amp when you buy it. This is a neat idea in theory, but the amp bikinis cost $10-$20 at most places, so you're much better off just pulling out a can of spray paint if you absolutely have to have an amp that's color coded with the rest of your system.
There's not really much else to say about this. An amp is just to power your speakers, the only one amp can make your speakers sound differently than another is if it's a different wattage. This puts out a clean 350 RMS @ 4 ohms and 500 RMS @ 2 ohms, and will work just as well as any other name brand 500 watt amp at a much lower cost.
