Author's Review
The special effects in "Titanic" were great; the story line and acting, sub-par. The Oscar committee correctly chose "Titanic" for the technical awards and not for the actors/actresses. It is debatable whether it should be Best Movie.
One aspect that made "Titanic" was the music, and here again James Cameron, et al, excelled. The title song, sung by Celine Dion, was great, if overtly overplayed (I renamed it "My Song Will Go On" it was so overplayed).
The music was written to reflect, well, the Titanic herself! The brass was dramatically played to mirror the massive metal power of the great ship. Violined pieces tugged at our heart strings for the love/romance scenes.
If you have recovered from the overplay of "My Heart Will Go On," this is the good album to listen to. But it's best effect is with the movie itself--if you can somehow get that sappy, ham-acting love story out of there.
